Only Human

Only Human is a soft sci-fi novel about a teen (name, description, and identity not specified) that is forced to "immigrate" into a slightly-absurd alien city teeming with hundreds of different species. Despite their best efforts to resist, they reluctantly find friendship, hatch an escape plan, and to add insult to injury, they also have to get a full-time job. Oh, and by the end, the fate of humanity hangs in the balance - so there’s that too.

This book exceeded all my expectations

I was not a big fun of Science Fiction and I wasn’t sure this was going to be my kind of book when I first started, but the narrative and characters quickly pulled me in and I finished it in three days. I’m going to listen to it a second time because, having gotten to the end (which I’m still thinking about) I see a lot of the earlier sections very differently. Great world-building. A fun quick read with a much more serious layer underneath.
