Publisher's summary

In a world filled with terror, they needed a hero. So, they became one themselves. They’ll fight for survival, and they’ll fight even harder for love.

There’s a place from my nightmares. A place where bad things hide. The memories kept me awake for most of my life. But it’s not what keeps me awake anymore.

It’s her.

She calls me, desperate and pleading. Like a shining star I can’t quite find. I feel those men from my nightmares coming for her. Only, she can’t sense them. She can’t see.

Not the past. Or the future. Unlike me.

Until one day, as I stood in a doorway in the barren wasteland in Afghanistan with my squad at my back. My star dimmed and sputtered out.

I have two holes in my chest now. One which bears her name.

I have to find her. I pray I’m not too late. First I have to find the others, two more guys like me. Together, we seek a North Star. One we were born half in love with. Leading us back home. Without ever knowing we were lost, at all.

Sixth, Oleander, and Spark are the three books the series.

Seems incomplete

I went into this series thinking I was going to get a beginning, middle, and end and was left handing. I am giving the story five stars because I liked the premise but I just wanted an ending. The performance from the narrator was great.

Enjoyable series

We first meet Sixth an get a glimpse of his life and wow is it not an easy one. He also has vision of the girl with the purple hair and feels connected to her is some way. But he also feels connected to Texas and Shadow who we eventually meet.
In book two we finally meet purple hair who’s name is actually Oleander. And if we thought Sixth life was hard you have no idea what that poor girl has been through. Basically a life on the run from about the age of 9. And it’s not till just before her meeting with Sixth that she felt like something was going semi right all except for the ticking in her head. The ticking ends when her mission is complete.
Book 3 we meet a new set of four Spark, Pitch Finley and Mavi we get a back ground on Spark, Pitch and Finley and Mavi well who knows. Spark is found abandoned on the side of the road but her new parents aren’t just anyone. And this book sees a big betrayal towards the end of the story and major heartbreak.
Overall I’ve enjoyed the books but would love to know more about the series like who is Fail Safe and if the first group of 4 meet up with the second lot. And did Dr Chris brainwash them into their groups?????????????
Harmon did an absolutely amazing job narrating these books with great character voices bringing them all to life.

Gritty but so good

This three book boxed set is a fast-paced, intense story arc, which still has more to come. So many of the scenes are tense and gritty and realistic - really keeps you on the edge of your seat! Harmon Gamble does a terrific job of putting just enough nuances in the different voices to allow for identification. My only knock is billing this story as ‘dark scifi reverse harem’ - yes, it’s dark, and yes, its scifi, but the reverse harem is such a small part of the story line, it feels like false billing. Oh, and that cliff hanger... ahhhh!

My new character addiction......

OMG...., I need more! I need to know what happens. I could not stop listening to this series from the second I pressed play. The characters are relatable and interesting. They quickly find a place in your heart. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. My favorite author has done it again. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Please please please.......

Interesting Sci-Fi RH

This series is an inter-connected Reverse Harem series. Sixth (Book 1) and Oleander (Book 2) follow one group and Spark (Book 3) follows another group. All three books are about the same plot and can't be read as standalones. The best way I can describe this is Sense 8 (Netflix show), but RH and with less steam. Now, the following review is a bit of a read, but I always like to thoroughly explain when I give a low star rating.

My biggest problem with this series is that it can get confusing and repetitive. There are lots of these kind of "flash back" moments or moments where they are having these "visions" and it can be really hard to follow (with the audio at least). Also, Book 1 and Book 2 may follow the same group, but they are mainly told from the POV of the character each book is named after. So Book 2 actually backtracks to tell the backstory for Oleander (the female of the first group) and Book 1 had followed Sixth's journey (one of the guys from her harem). It's kind of frustrating when Book 1 ends with a cliffhanger and you have to wait until late in Book 2 to pick up at the point where you left off. Then Book 3 starts following a new group, so you hear all their backstory while still waiting on all the unresolved plot issues in the "present". Also, a small issue is that this author is Australian and based the books in the US. There is nothing wrong with that except for the fact that she uses quite a few terms that Americans do not use. I'm not sure why she didn't just base the book in Australia or have American beta readers to help her iron those out. Also, being a former military spouse, I did notice some things that weren't accurate on that front. Again, neither of those issues is huge, just another reason that added to the list of what brought this story down to a 2-star for me. My last issue is that in Book 3 with the new group, I didn't feel a lot of character distinction with the guys of the harem, and that made it hard for me to keep them straight in my head. Although, this was not at all a problem with the first group.

Now onto what I did like. I really like the general premise of the book. I find the overall plot really interesting and it's kept me listening instead of giving up. I also really liked the Sense 8 vibe since I enjoyed that show. It is cool to have the interconnections and to see the characters you like coming together. I also really loved the idea of the first book being mainly from one of the guy's perspectives. You don't see that often, especially with RH, and I thought it was interesting and refreshing! That mad Book 1 my favorite. I love Sixth, as well as that group and their dynamic.

As for the narration, I give it a 4-star. He does a really good job with all the different characters and voices!
