Killers don't play by the rules…
After nearly dying in the line of duty, the FBI's top criminal profiler, Genevieve Callow, contemplates a quieter life while struggling with survivor's guilt. She's reminded every day that while she was fighting for her life, another predator was stalking the night in her hometown—the Icebox Killer.
She knows now that home isn't safe. But she's haunted, tired, and barely recovered. There are other agents on the killer's tail. They should be able to catch him. Or can it only be her?
Now, in one brazen act, the killer has called out to her by name, taunting her―a game of cat and mouse. Callow has a choice: Run and hide or do what she does best and catch a maniac before he strikes again. Even if facing him means the Icebox Killer claims one more victim…

If the author were a young writer just beginning (like 19/20), I could forgive the forced dialogue, chaffed discoveries and terrible misuse of the killers nickname by anyone in the BAU.
I know, I know it’s bs from Criminal Minds that they don’t use the nicknames… but it really is something they try to stand by. And the agent’s overuse of it began grating on my every nerve.
The way one thought would lead to another or forcing “aha’s” was bumpy at best. Like connecting one dot to another just wasn’t smooth at all.
The other thing that really stood out as a rookie issue was the amount of time they stood around, talking about how they didn’t have time.
Her inner dialogue was repetitive and unproductive. Thus: unnecessary filler that I found myself fast forwarding through. I was able to skip whole chapters without missing anything important or vital to the story.
There were also way too many uninvestigated clues… I kept thinking… they would certainly check this out or follow that lead… only to see it be brought up for no apparent reason other than the reader to think it was important. ?
Maybe explain why it wasn’t or show it was looked into and it turned out to be a dead end… I’d rather hear about that than listen to her think about how much she wants to quit. It would’ve made more sense that it was brought up in the first place.
I didn’t like the main character, her boyfriend, her sister. There was no one… other than the last victim, I felt anything for.
Even though it was a female lead, it was so definitely written by a man. Not to say men are incapable of writing female characters… this one just missed the mark.
Like most audible books I leave reviews on… narrator was great. I wish there would’ve been a better story for her to work with
So close… but so very far away

It’s a whiny style of writing
