Publisher's Summary

Some mistakes can change your life forever. For Matt Hunter, that mistake came in one terrible moment when his attempt to help a friend and stop a fight resulted in an accidental death. Matt was convicted of manslaughter and sent to prison. Time that his peers spent in college, Matt endured behind bars.

Now, nine years after his release from prison, his innocence long forgotten, he's an ex-con who takes nothing for granted. With his wife Olivia pregnant, and the two of them closing on a house in his hometown, things are looking up. Until the day Matt gets a shocking, inexplicable video call from Olivia's phone. And in an instant, the unraveling begins.

A mysterious man who begins tailing Matt turns up dead. A beloved nun is murdered. And local and federal authorities, including homicide investigator Loren Muse, a childhood schoolmate of Matt's with a troubled past of her own, see all signs pointing to a former criminal with one murder already under his belt...Matt Hunter. Unwilling to lose everything for a second time, Matt and Olivia are forced outside the law in a desperate attempt to save their future together.

An electrifying thrill-ride of a novel that peeks behind the white picket fences of suburbia, The Innocent is at once a twisting, turning, emotionally-charged story and a compelling tale of the choices we make and the repercussions that never leave us.

What the Critics Say

"[Coben's] best book to date." (Publishers Weekly)
"As usual with Coben, an intriguing start, hinging on one out-of-whack technological trick, hurtles into a fast-paced hunter-and-hunted drama. First-rate." (Booklist)

Pay close attention from the very start, because you'll need to know everything! Great twists and turns!

I wasn't a fan of this reader on the last book but he redeemed himself totally with this one. Excellent job! I'm from NY so I'd notice a crappy accent, but he was spot on!

Once again Harlan Coban has succeeded in keeping my interest and leaving me wanting to read/hear more stories by him. I am definitely a Harlan Coban fan.

This is my first Harlan Coben book, and it definately makes me want to try more. Great mystery with many twists that I could have never seen coming, plus likable characters. Highest recommendation.

    "enjoyable"

This was an enjoyable listen-so much so that I'd listen during exercising, in my car and while doing household chores! Easy to pick up on the storyline even after putting down for a couple of days.

    "Coben is a must!"

This guy merges intracacies with a skill that spelbinds. A pure delight from page one until the last explanation is in hand. Definately five star stuff.

    "Good Book for Long Drive"

Harlen Coben does a good job of creating another unique story. Good book for a long 7 hour drive. Not a "on the edge of your seat" type of thriller, but good twists and good characters.

    "Coben Keeps Getting Better"

Excellent book, nearly impossible to put down. Coben packs more twists and surprises into one book than most suspense writers do in a lifetime. And Scott Brick is at the top of his game here: A masterful reading.

If you like suspense novels even marginally, you should love this book and this performance.
