Publisher's Summary

Colorado Congressman Evan Kendrick is trying to live out his term of office quietly—when a political mole reveals to the world Kendrick's deepest secret: that Kendrick was the anonymous man in Masqar, the man who courageously freed the hostage held in the American embassy by Arab terrorists; the unknown hero who performed an act of outrageous daring then silently disappeared.

Now, suddenly, Kendrick is a living target pursued by the terrorists he outwitted. Together with the beautiful woman who once saved his life, Kendrick enters a deadly arena where the only currency is blood, where frightened whispers speak of violence yet to come, and where Kendrick's life—and the fate of the free world—may ultimately rest in the powerful hands of a mysterious and deadly figure known only as the Mahdi.

"Politician or not. A real hero."

I just couldn't stop on this one. I even spent more time hiking just so I could listen longer.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Icarus Agenda to be better than the print version?

I have no idea if the audio version is better because I have not read nor seen the print version

What other book might you compare The Icarus Agenda to and why?

Daniel Silva books, because of the character development

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Love Scott brick.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Cry .....almost

    "Good book"

This was one of the better books, both story and narration, this from an 82 year great grandmother.

    "I wanted to like it"

But I just could not suspend disbelief. This book is comprised of two different stories (one a political intrigue, the other a super hero spy story) that the author was unable to stitch together convincingly. It is presented as three books, but each book consists of the two stories badly stitched together.

    "Fast paced and compelling"

I've always been a big fan of Ludlum. The Chancellor Manuscript was my favorite...until The Icarus Agenda! Love that he brought back Inver Brass with a new conspiracy and set of characters. It was fast paced, funny at times and still pretty current with today's current events. Scott Brick was an excellent narrator.

"Will not hold my attention at all"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Not sure, the book is all over the place and is written badly. Unbelievable plot, story line and suspense is teeth "gnashingly" painful.

Would you ever listen to anything by Robert Ludlum again?

Sure would, but only his oldest works.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Scott Brick?

Of course, he does a superb job with all the material he is given to read.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

None for me and I have listened to thousands of books in last 20 years.

    Any additional comments?

    Just disappointing.

"Good after into it but no good reader"

Brick seemed not to be able to modulate voice in different circumstances. Kendrick always was, even when not in dire straits, talking as if in dire straits. Unfortunate. I almost stopped and returned. Kept going, though, and found the last third of the book pretty good.

If you could sum up The Icarus Agenda in three words, what would they be?

Another Jack Ryan in the making. Well written. Facts before there time.....Hero gets the girl! WHY NOT!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Many...Crazy, fun, smart and he defies the odds

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

He is the best of all narrators

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Going into the jaws of the prison. Alot of these types of scary moments.

    Any additional comments?

If you like Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler novels you will enjoy this book.

    "Enjoyable overall!"
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The author lays it on pretty thick with the saccharine patriotism and the pretty much unbelievable main character. The end was just way too much and really took away a lot of the enjoyment.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Fantastic narrator! Brings individuality to every character and makes it easier to follow as there are MANY important personalities at play in this story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Nah

    Any additional comments?

Again, the author just goes way overboard with the almost smarmy patriotism of some of the characters and so forfeits any credibility he had built up for them. Hope he doesn't try so hard next time to force us to like some of the people.

    "Worth the 29 hours!!"

The story requires you to listen carefully as the events move back and forth quickly, however the story is exciting and pulls you in and doesn't let you go until the end.
