Wow!!

I listen to 7-10 books a week. This is one of the best ever. I will and gave recommended this book. It's intense, funny, and wonderfully read.

I love this book

I have every book of Karin Slaughter's books on Audible. This is the best so far. I'm getting ready to listen to it for the 3rd time

Great Book if a tad Intense

This book was a very entertaining read/listen.
Initially, I was not a fan of the author as she created a whiny victim of the main character of the novel. That annoys me but it is a perception issue I think, more than her doing a bad job.
As the book went along I became more appreciative of her skills. Some of her narration was annoying "to me" all throughout the novel but definitely not enough to stop reading.
She did a wonderful job of giving her all to the characters and I give her respect for that.
The storyline was terrific, if a bit graphic, so if you are sensitive to rape and extremely graphic violence, I give you plenty warning. The author does not go overboard but gives details you might actually get from a real-life crime.
I have enjoyed all Karin Slaughter novels and this was no slouch to her collection of well written, entertaining books.
I recommend it to mature, mentally stable people but if you are in therapy for PTSD or rape/violence you may want to head over to Danielle Steele for a gander. This one may be a little intense for you right now.

I laughed and cried. the story had twists and turns. truly the best from this author.

A good one

Best book I’ve read in a long time. It was interesting from beginning to end.

Good overall

Good story, kept me engaged until the end. Enjoyable to listen to. My criticism is that near the end when we were hit with the plot twists, things really contorted and the connections were a bit far fetched to get to the tidy ended. Instead of the big “aha!” reaction, I was left thinking “that’s a bit of a stretch”. Still an entertaining book though.

this book has me gripped from the beginning. I listened mostly in my car. I had white knuckles most trips. very well written.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Charlie--her complexity and pain and wit were all woven together. She never sounded whiny about her past.

What does Kathleen Early bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Life! Her narration is what makes the audiobook so great. She changes characters seamlessly. Though different, they never sound forced or false. The characters seem so real. Because of her narration, I could picture each character. The writing set the scenes, and Karin Slaughter just nailed it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When I finally learned exactly what happened to Charlie. Karin Slaughter added more to the narrative in each "flashback." When it is finally made known, this method helped take the edge off. I was better prepared, but felt no less compassion for Charlie and women everywhere who suffer similar fates.

Any additional comments?

Great book! I love her Will Trent books. I have also read some of her short stories, whose violence and darkness I disliked. It is almost hard to believe that the same author wrote this! Slaughter is versatile, for sure. While hoping for something more like "Will Trent," I got this, but am not the least bit disappointed.
