Such a wonderful book from my childhood. The love between a horse and her boy.

I love horses. I love sad, sweet story's too. So I love my friend Flicka is because it's a sad, sweet story.

Better Than Even I Remembered

Why is this only on Audible Kids? Like all classics, this is a complex story with appeal to adults as well - it’s actually an adult novel with simple aspects that appeal to kids. I have re-read it many times at various stages of life. I am near 60 now and found new pleasure, new nuances. PLEASE get Thunderhead and Greengrass of Wyoming, the sequels. I volunteer to read them aloud!

classic story

I loved this book though it had a slow start. It was worth getting through that.

O my freakin goodness!! One of my favorite books ever...

Yeah, I said freakin' 'cause I'm from So. Dakota y'all !!" That's a baby, no sense at all... This last one was one of the worst possible of insults on the Goose Bar Ranch... For a horse without sense was a horse without a right to existence." I would not recommend this book for young horsemen lookin' for horse knowledge 'cause sometimes Mary O'Hara has false knowledge to offer for beginners. For ex it is not called a "horse-colt" it's called a COLT OK?!?? even a stud or stallion. I, myself plan to get me a little mare nag just to be a friend an to ride ( ' cause I don't have any real friends, just animal) :( but hey, call me country ( which I am,) btw, the " Heraford " cows ( and steers) are pronounced HER-FORD i ain't makin' fun of M.L.W. just, IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!!! Also, Flicka is supposed to be a sorrel mare or filly, not yellow... By the picture. Any- who looooooooooooooooooooovvee horses!! Any horse( inexperienced ) lover or any for that matter wiil love this book

The whole book, from start to finish, it was as good as the first time I read it.

Would you be willing to try another one of Michael Louis Wells’s performances?

I'd have to think twice about it. He mispronounced the characters' surname, McLaughlin. He got it right about twice but it's how Mary O'Hara refers to the main character's father, so it comes up a lot in the book.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

There is a film about the book. Unfortunately, they recently made another movie based on the novel, but I'm yet to see the relativity.

Michael Louis Well doesn't do a bad job, but his mispronunciation of the surname really detracted from his performance.

Better Than I Remember

Read as a child, reread as an adult! What a contrast in takes from the horse lover I have been since little and hobby farmer/parent I am now. A great book to listen and read along WITH your horse loving children!

I didn't like the father character at all

It's an okay story. It sure makes you not like the father in this story. He's very harsh. His type definitely can ruin a sensitive child's outlook on life. I also didn't like his cussing and taking God's name in vain. I think his character ruins this as a children's story.
