Publisher's Summary

Ewan Cameron, estranged grandson of the Duke of Lotheil, is in London because of a deathbed promise made to his father and has no intention of staying beyond his three month obligation. Nothing can tempt him to remain, not even Lily, the beautiful bluestocking determined not only to restore relations between him and his grandfather, but to turn Ewan into a proper gentleman. Ewan, proud of his Scottish heritage, refuses to admit that Lily, a blue-eyed, English girl, has claimed his heart. It doesn't matter that his big lump of a sheepdog is madly in love with her. Nor is it significant that Ewan can always tell Lily apart from her identical twin sister. Always.

Lily Farthingale, the scholarly twin, dreams of becoming the first female member of the Royal Society. She grabs at the chance when the elderly Duke of Lotheil approaches her with a proposition - he will admit her into the Royal Society, if she helps him to establish a relation with his estranged grandson, Ewan Cameron, a very rough-around-the-edges Scotsman who hates everything English. Between shootings, explosions, and Lily's abduction, Ewan ends up falling in love with Lily in this Pygmalion-inspired story.

book is out of order

This book is really the 4th in the series, so I plan to wait for all of them to be on audible and then figure out which one might be first. 3 of the sisters are married at the beginning of this book, so it is a little confusing as there is some kind of "curse" about meeting a strange man on their street. I think this is the 4th book, so be warned if you are like me and want to have the order correct. The story is good , but a little contrived. The heroine is in danger and the hero has to save her. I did not really understand why the villans wanted to hurt the heroine, except for the fact that they seemed to just go crazy all of a sudden...pretty convenient! there is a constant repeat of the overly large dog jumping up and licking the heroine. Several times just makes it seem stupid. A good editor would have helped this book to be a little tighter. I worry about the storyline when it is a self-published author. The story was not great, but not the worst I have read. The narrator does an okay job, but I don't think has the right Scottish accent. After listening to Rosalyn Landor no one seems to sound authentique!

I loved the narration and the accents were great

Great story, alpha highlands male and sweet English rose come together in a great story. Hollis McCarthy brings it all together is a delightful narration. The story is well-written and makes me want to read more from this author. I truly enjoyed this book and give the performance two thumbs up. Worth your time, worth the credit.

This is a fun book!

This was a fun book. The leading lady was fun, funny, whitty, intelligent. Which are qualities to be frowned upon in the era. The hero matched her qualities. It was a lightweight amusing story. Not too steamy but it did reference on sex a lot. Listen for yourself, I'll bet you love it too.

Entertaining Regency Romance

My Fair Lily is an adventurous first book in the Farthingale series by Meara Platt. It is pure escapism and I enjoyed it immensely during a long road trip. The story revolves around the scholarly Lilly Farthingale who comes from a wonderfully open and loving family and who dreams of becoming the first female member of the Royal Society. Lilly meets the very rough-around-the-edges Scotsman, Ewan Cameron, when his dog plows into her and knocks her into the mud. From that day forward Lily vows to make Ewan a gentleman. Little does Lily know Ewan is the estranged grandson of a Duke. Although the characters may be flawed, they are clever, witty, and charming. After surviving a few shootings, explosions, and an abduction, it is inevitable that the Lily and Ewan fall in love. It was really entertaining watching Ewan’s transformation from hating everything English, to wanting nothing more than to marry a Sassenach. I listened to the audiobook version of this story narrated by Hollis McCarthy and I was thoroughly entertained by her performance. Her narration flows naturally at an even pace and she was easy to listen to. She has differing voices for all characters, male and female, and young and old. Hollis exhibits the right amount of worry, exasperation, and yearning in all the right places. I can’t wait to start listening to the other Farthingale sister’s books!

GOOD STORY...SO SO NARRATOR.

I did like the storyline and the characters. Could have used a little more "steam" for me but, I did laugh out loud at some of the portions with the dog. The narrator did a good job with different voices and expression in the reading, however, her Scottish accent was a very good Irish accent. Need to practice that accent, my dear. Overall, I liked it and would recommend this book. Steam factor (1-5): I give it a 2. lol

Performance was Outstanding

The Narrator for this book was wonderful. Each character had their own distinct personality and it came out in the performance of their voice. Story was fun, quirky, and was full of romance and steam. I can't wait to listen to the other books in the series.

Will the Highlander Find Love?

This audiobook is the most amazing story that I'm sure you will love too! When you think you have it figured out, you don't. There are twists in this story and exciting ones too. The two main characters Lily and Ewan (I hope I got that right) are Incredible. I found myself cheering them on. Wait until you get the audiobook, you'll see what I mean. Naturally you must know after I said all that I highly recommend you get this audiobook. You will not be disappointed 😞!

Recommended

It has been awhile since I read a historical story. I now remember why I liked them so much. This story was delightful. It has a little bit of everything with a lot of love. Living up to the expectations of others is difficult but Ewan does his best after Lily's influence starts to change his perspective while still being true to himself.

Worst Scottish accent I have ever heard

Being Scottish myself I have heard lots of accents of my native tongue, but I have to say this is definitely the worst. It’s so bad I only got half wY through chapter 1. I don’t know if the book would have been any good as I couldn’t listen to that. Narrator for more than 5 mins. If you decide to go ahead with this book then I wish you luck on reaching the end
