Resumen del Editor

Rose Farthingale is saved from the rubble of her pottery workshop by her best friend's brother. She knows she must repay this debt to her handsome rescuer by abducting him (at his family's desperate urging) in order to save him from the clutches of the scheming woman he is presently courting and intending to marry. But Rose never expects to be abducted with him or to fall in love with him over the course of their captivity.

Viscount Julian Emory is a secret agent of the Crown on an important mission to destroy the spy ring Napoleon has established in London. The woman he is pretending to court is one of Napoleon's most important spies, for only she knows the identity of the traitor within the royal inner circle. He has purposely encouraged the courtship and marriage rumors in the hope she will make a slip and disclose the traitor's identity, but his meddlesome family has just ruined his plans. By forcing him into close quarters with Rose Farthingale, they've put both his mission and this delectable innocent in danger.

Can he keep himself from falling in love with Rose long enough to bring down Napoleon's spy organization?

Enjoyable Sweet Historical Romance

The Viscount’s Rose is an enjoyable sweet historical romance by Meara Platt. This is the 5th book in the Farthingale series and features Rose, the eldest sister, as she prepares to enter her first season in London. Each book in the series features one of five daughters, but with a twist in that each book is presented in reverse order. In other words, the last of the five daughters to marry was featured in the first book in the series. Despite this, the series can be read forwards and backwards without much difficulty.

This story centers around Viscount Julian Emory who is a secret agent to the Crown who is tasked with a mission to destroy the spy ring Napoleon established in London. For over a year, he’s acted like a love-struck boy toy to Valentina, a French countess who is known to be involved with the ring. That is, until he rescues Rose after her pottery workshop explodes. To help "repay" him for his heroism, Julian’s sister Nicola and Rose devise a scheme to "save" him from the clutches of Valentina. The rest of the story are several comical scenes where Julian’s entire family are in on the plot to keep him away from town (and Valentina) and instead keep him and Rose together.

Hollis McCarthy did another outstanding job narrating this story, as she did with the other books in the series. Her narration flows naturally at an even pace and she uses differing voices for all characters. I believe Nicola’s story is next and I can’t wait to start listening to it!

The 1st Farthingale book!!

In this book the eldest Farthingale daughter, Rose, finds her true love. Why on earth these books are given such a crazy order I don’t know. But the romances go by their ages. It’s Rose, Laurel, Daisy Lily, Dilly in that order!

Hollis McCarthy delivers a odd performance. She speaks so damn softly and with such a quiet cadence that it borders on being slowly boring. Fortunately the book is better than the narration. And once you get used to her delivery it fits the style of the book. Just the comfortable ease of it, not boring at all!!!

These books are humorous, intriguing and entertaining. I’ve enjoyed each one in both written and audio versions.

Worth it.

Disappointing

I listened to My Fair Lily first as it is supposed to be the first in the series. I liked My Fair Lily, story and narration. Alas, I realized that the series, for some peculiar reason, is not in order. It should be, in order: The Viscount's Rose; A Midsummer's kiss; Rules for reforming a rake; My fair lily; The duke I'm going to marry; Earl of hearts. At least that's what I think. While My Fair Lily was delightful, The Viscount's Rose was quite boring, repetitive, and was not helped by the narration. Too too bad. Here's hoping to a better A Midsummer's Kiss!

Didn’t enjoy this at all

I kept listening for a plot to begin but it never really did! The little intrigue plot that was shown wasn’t resolved so obviously meant to entice the reader to the next book. It was mainly about attraction between Rose and Julian and bordering pornographic. I will not be reading anymore of this authors work.
