Publisher's Summary

The small village of Kilbane is hosting a poker tournament at the local pub, and card sharp Eamon Foley, a tinker out of Dublin, is set to win the tournament. But when Foley is found at the end of a rope, it’s time for the garda to take matters into their own hands.

Macdara Flannery would lay odds it’s a simple suicide, but Siobhán suspects foul play, as does Foley’s pregnant widow. Perhaps one of Foley’s fellow finalists just raised the stakes to life and death. With conflicting theories on the crime, tensions are running high. Soon it’s up to Siobhán to call a killer’s bluff, but if she doesn’t play her cards right, she may be the next one taken out of the game.

3 and a half maybe 4

Murder in an Irish Pub is ok. I enjoyed the mystery but it's hard to believe that Siobohn is now the smartest Garda on the force.

Loved it

I’ve enjoyed the whole series. Loved the Irish dialect and the characters that lived in the village. This mystery had many twists and turns. Enjoyed this tale the best I think. Hope this isn’t the end of the series but if it is I will be on the lookout for more from this author.

Excellent Who Done It in the grand old style

Another fun mystery from Carlene O'Connor! Garda O'Sullivan once again proves her high ability to decipher unsolvable mysteries. I love the way she thinks and that the village feels safe, if not compelled, to whisper to her with gossip and hidden clues.
This series has been a true delight. The narration by Caroline Lennon is seamless and brings to life the sibtleties of the characters.
I was smiling to beat the band at the homage to a classic Christie reveal.
I finished this book in record time and eagerly await the next installment.

Cutie Cozy

It was Ok for what it was,, very light and easy read. But extremely predictable. No depth to it at all.

Wonderfully charming

I absolutely loved this series. As a matter of fact I am almost at the end of the last one and can’t wait for more. Hopefully there are more in this series. They are charming and wonderfully written. The characters feel like real people. I give the narrator top marks. Her charming Irish lilt makes me smile, and she does a fantastic American accent. All in all calling these cozy mysteries doesn’t take into account that the murderer plots and characters are actually quite intricately written.

Fun listen

Fun listen. Thoroughly enjoyed the narration as well, with an authentic Irish accent and good American accent, and enough of a change between women's and men's voices to keep the story running clearly without being corny. Realistic dialog, especially notable between the children, who act and talk like real kids everywhere. I love the characters. All the books in this series are quite fun, but, alas, I have finished them all. Waiting for a new one!

A bit too cozy for me

This is a pretty light-hearted read and for my personal taste had a bit too cozy a feel to it.

Also I wish the author had learned a bit more about poker before making it a central theme.
