Publisher's Summary

As children, Jessica Creswell and Callen Hayes's friendship was an escape from the darkness that surrounded them at home. Then one day, Callen never returned to the secret spot where they'd always met. Jessica, who had no way to find him, was heartbroken. Years later, she's living in Paris and working as a translator of ancient documents, and Callen has found fame and fortune as a musical composer, when their paths collide once again.

Callen has never forgotten the girl he left behind. Back then, Jessica and music were the only things that brought him any measure of peace. Now, memories of his past make him feel unworthy of any love or affection. But there's something about Jessica. Something that calls to the boy he used to be and the man he could be. With her, Callen sees the chance for a new life. If only he's brave enough to take it.

Mia Sheridan writes such sweet romances

This book really hit all my sweet spots. The narrators took this book to the next level. The narrator for Callen had this haunting vibe to his voice that I felt his pain and the narrator for Jessica had this quite hopefulness to her voice. What an Excellent choice and job for this novel.

I was just completely invested from the first paragraph.
Jess and Callen’s bond and friendship made so much sense because they came from a place of comfort for each other. Their family were in turmoil but as little kids, they represented a judgment free zone and they saw the best in each other.
The love also healed those old wounds.

I love Mia Sheridan’s work because she writes these wounded characters that you just want to hug. I feel for them, I empathize and I want to encourage them to fight their circumstances.

I definitely will put this as one of my favorite Mia Sheridan books. It was just emotionally gripping.

Sweet

A sweet story. The very talented Mia Sheridan always depicts the inner world of her characters so beautifully. It wasn't heart wrenching and profound like Leo, Becoming Calder or Archer's Voice, but still very moving. Narration was great.

Riveting!

It took me a while to get into this book but once I got the into it, I could not stop listening. This story was real, rocking all emotions and so very poignant at times. I loved the historical story woven into it as well. Excellent narrations.

Decent, but not my favorite Mia story

I love me some Mia. The drama, the actual plot driven stories which are not just a vehicle for gratuitous sex... They're good books with messages, which tackle real issues. However, this one - while compelling and entertaining - did not have the character development I felt it needed.

Side note, both narrators had attrocious French accents.

it was a good story, though. I did like it... just not my favorite Mia.

Thoughtful, past and present

More Than Words is a story within a story and spans over 600 years. It’s a thoughtful story, past and present. It’s a story that takes longer to read, as you have to feel and reflect on what you’ve read.

Callen and Jessie’s story started as children, and their story continues more than a decade later. It’s fear and anger, guilt and resentment. It’s regret. Regret is an opportunity wasted. And Callen has to discover that on his own.

There is Fate. There is God’s message. There is learning from history. There is praying for help. And there is recognizing what that help is, and grasping onto it for all you’re worth, to the good in life; more importantly, the good in yourself. Find that beauty; that inner peace and light. There is Love.

“...life was more than words. It was laughter and love, faith and joy. And mostly, it was the deep peace that came from living fiercely and without regret.”

This was a re-read for me. I had read the book and wanted to read again in audio. The female narrator was disappointing as she was stiff and did not bring the characters to life, instead sounding as though she was just reading the book to us. I enjoyed the book overall.

Sheridan delivers the romance

3.5 Stars

Jessica and Callen are easy to root for and love. They're sweet characters with an awww love story. There are a couple of moments where I wanted to kick them, but I kept the faith that they would have their HEA. The setting is in France. Jessica's job is translating old writings so there is an interesting side story she's working on that's a bonus to the main couple's tale. I really enjoyed this and all the historical bits and descriptive scenery and sightseeing of France. More Than Words is written by one of my favorite authors, and as expected, she delivers the romance. This isn't my favorite book from her, but I liked it and do recommend it.
