Story
Years ago, after suffering a humiliatingly large dumb tax, it dawned on me that I have a seemingly unlimited ability to hit unforced errors and sabotage my business and financial success. I suspect you do, too. It turns out that the key to getting rich (and staying that way) is to avoid doing stupid things. I don't need to do more smart things. I just need to make fewer dumb mistakes. The vast majority of our dumb tax is a direct result of emotional, overly optimistic, and poorly thought out decisions.

Story
"I can't afford that." "Now's not the right time.... I need to save up." "Quit my job? Are you nuts?!" Sound familiar? Money is one of the biggest excuses we make to not go after what we really want. Our fixation with money - the desire for more of it, and the fear of not having enough of it - is often really just a longing to feel safe. But this obsession with money is coming at a much bigger cost: our sanity, our creativity, our freedom, and our ability to step into our true power.

Intention is generally viewed as a pit-bull kind of determination propelling one to succeed at all costs by never giving up on an inner picture. In this view, an attitude that combines hard work with an indefatigable drive toward excellence is the way to succeed. However, intention is viewed very differently in this audiobook.

I already "knew" most of this stuff AND LOVED it!
This book is an excellent, comprehensive summary of all aspects financial. Many times I thought: I already know this, or this isn’t ground breaking information. I could have written this (part). That AND I thought - this is helpful! LOVE IT! I believe, having learned it before or “already knowing” it, doesn’t make information un-valuable, un-useful. Have you heard of the person who has gone to the same training 42 times? (Hey Lisa Nichols!) And there are many stories like that. “Repetition is the mother of skill” to quote one of Veronica’s fave people and one of mine too, Tony Robbins. The more we hear or experience things, the more they become a part of us, the more connections we make, and the more they have the potential to become unconscious programs, habits we do in life. Things we do naturally, with less thinking and less effort. Wouldn’t that be nice?! To have more confidence about your money and worry about it less? This book, was in part about repetition to me. It was ALSO, very much a complete summary: short, sweet, and comprehensive, covering all the essentials from budget, to types of loans, to insurance plans, to investing and more in-between. I read (listened) to this book in ONE sitting. I love summary things and this covered it all. I have worn many an HR hat in my past life and I thought: If I could have just handed this out to new hires, that would have been so helpful. The things I observed confusing 18 year old employees were some of the things still confusing my 30 and approaching 40 year old staff. What are the differences in retirement plan types, insurance plans, and income deductions? How to fill out a W4 correctly and some of the common pot holes that come up. Like if I had better known what to do with the itemized page when I was 18, I would not have been undertaxed wen I was working 3 jobs and wouldn’t have owed thousands of dollars I didn’t have that year! I know I’ve already said this, but it’s worth repeating. This book is a GREAT comprehensive overview about money and how to manage it. I believe it would be a perfect book for anyone who identifies as a novice or “bad at adulting”, this book will do wonders for your overall understanding of that “adulting” and is easy to read. It’s to the point, not verbose. Clean and clear. I believe this book would also be valuable to anyone who identifies as “having their financial shit together”. This book, again is a great summary of all the essential components. If you’re a financial savvy human and you get one reminder or one thing from this book of essentials that improves your situation, wouldn’t it be worth the relatively small time investment? (4 hours is like 1-3 commutes right?). And to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th many others, the material in this book should be taught in high school. If kids would be equipped with this information as they are entering the work world, wow how impactful that would be for everyone. Really. How the common curriculum doesn't include this stuff is strange. I’m glad I read this book and I will be suggesting it to others. I took 14 pages of notes and I already “knew” most of the stuff. LOL Nice work Veronica. Thank you. I love you too!

Great Resource!!
I still have some books from my Master's program that I use as a quick reference. Money Matters will be a book that I keep as a reference forever! As I listened to the book, I was able to think about some questions about my own finances and what action steps I need to take. I also teach Sociology and my goal is to provide college students with tools that help them engage with real life in an innovative way. They will definitely be reading Money Matters! Addressing personal finance is definitely a first step in personal development. Everyone should read this!

Best book I have ever read on investing and money!
I only wish a book like this one existed when I was younger. It should be required reading for all high school students to graduate! Especially when the author explains how important compound interest is and the importance of time. I consider myself an astute investor. But this book showed me that I didn’t know nearly as much as I thought! The author covers everything one needs to know about investing and money management in general. And she explains it in such a clear, easily digestible way, that even if you are new to the subject you will understand it. I already implemented several suggestions from this book. I have read several books on investing, and almost all specialize in only one or two areas of money management. This book covers ALL the bases from A to Z, and gives the reader a solid understanding of all the financial options to consider along with how to manage money to optimize their long-term wealth. The author clearly wants what is best for the reader. She explains the pros and cons of different investments in simple terms that anyone can grasp. And she understands that everyone has their own unique financial situation and that no one-size-fits-all strategy exists. I highly recommend this book to everyone, whether you are already rich, on a tight budget, young, old, or never learned how to handle money. This book will give you the tools and insights you need to maximize your understanding of money and how to manage and invest it properly.

Filled with critical information
It’s everything that should have been taught in high school. Veronica gives you all the finance basics you need to know, and everyone should get to know when first entering the work force to maximize benefits and earning potential. Regardless of how old you are, the book is full of clearly explained critical information about how money works and how to make sure it’s working in your best interest. I’m certainly inspired to take better control of my savings and start investing. I look forward to replaying so many rich parts of this book, and integrating her advice into my life. Thank you Veronica!

Read this book!
This is a book I wish I read 20 years ago. I am admittedly clueless about finances and just assumed it wasn’t for me. The real life advice and clear and blunt language is just what I needed. I’m buying copies for my children, both young adults that were unfortunately learners of my errors. I will listen to the first few chapters again and again!

If Only I Had This Book Years Ago
I truly wish I had read a book like this in high school. If only my parents had read this book in their younger years. My parents I would likely have made smarter financial decisions and probably would have so much more money invested. This book talks directly to the reader in terms they can understand. It’s filled with knowledge for the young and old (and everyone in between). I highly recommend this book and I will inspire my three children to pick it up as well.
