Publisher's summary

The small town of Harrod’s Reach has seen its fair share of the macabre, especially inside the decrepit old train tunnel around which the town was built. After a young boy, Sully Dupree, is injured in the abandoned tunnel and left in a coma, the townspeople are determined to wall it up. Deputy sheriff Beth Gardner is reluctant to buy into the superstitions until she finds two corpses at the tunnel’s entrance, each left with strange calling cards inscribed with old lullabies. Soon after, Sully Dupree briefly awakens from his coma.

Before falling back into his slumber, Sully manages to give his older brother a message. Sully's mind, since the accident, has been imprisoned on the other side of the tunnel in Lalaland, a grotesque and unfamiliar world inhabited by evil mythical creatures of sleep. Sully is trapped there with hundreds of other coma patients, all desperately fighting to keep the evils of the dream world from escaping into the waking world.

Elsewhere, a man troubled by his painful youth has for years been hearing a voice in his head he calls Mr. Lullaby, and he has finally started to act on what that voice is telling him—to kill any coma patient he can find, quickly. Something is waking up in the tunnel—something is trying to get through. And Mr. Lullaby is coming.

Fast moving plot

I like how the author doesn't become mired in the details, his style of writing horror books is refreshing. This is a great story!

Good story/horrible ending

I bought this book after reading another one of his books and loving it. I was disappointed with the ending and left wanting more

Really Enjoying this Author

I picked this book up immediately after I finished The Nightmare Man. I was captivated by this author I'd never heard of in a genre (horror) that I'm passionate about. This book did not disappoint, and I simply cannot wait for what comes next. For anyone wondering, this book takes place in the same "universe" as the Nightmare Man, but doesn't need to be read afterwards. Although I think there's some Easter eggs if you do. Regardless, if you like horror and a fascinating story, do yourself a favor and get this book.

Hanging on the edge

Okay this was fun in a mentally disturbed way. Loved its twist. Can’t wait for the next one!

heavily borrowed from Stephen King

has a generally interesting story.

relatively entertaining

elements of salem's lot, the talisman, the stand, needful things, and even the dark tower.

needed to be a little longer to flesh out some of the characters.

major plot hole in the third act

the ending is abrupt. it could really use a denouement. .

switching between narrators was distracting and added nothing to the experience

Solid follow up to nightmare man

Market truly builds on his world of the nightmare man in this follow up tale. Excited to see if the story will continue!

King fans, this is a must buy!

I am at a bed audiobook listener, and I have hundreds and hundreds of purchases and only one in a very few get put in my favorite library or warrant a radio… I only review my absolute favorites so this one deserves it! Excellent character development, truly original subject/storyline, and not only did I find myself freaked out. Lol, I could not stop listening! Can’t wait to check out other titles by this author!

I loved Nightmare Man, but Mister Lullaby is even better.

Complex characters, shocking twists, tension that builds til’ the very end, and a plot that’s incomparable to anything else I’ve read.
J.H. Markert is the best author in horror right now.

Likeable Characters

I enjoyed this book and surprised it doesn't have better reviews. It feels like Dr. Sleep by Stephen King a little and I'm okay with that.
