Grief led to gore

I’d heard some less than stellar things about this one, but I actually really love it! It’s a tour de force on grief and evil influences, but I’d love to see this become an entire novel with more flesh on its bones.

Fantastic Short Story!

Perfect timing for Halloween and a quick spooky tale to start the season. Only complaint is the abrupt end, but understand it’s a short story that’s not supposed to have a tidy HEA.

Great little horror story

Joe Hill is one of my favorites. He’s never disappointed me. This little ditty is perfect for the Halloween season. It’s good horror, but also a story that I feel has something to say emotionally. I liked it. Hell, listen to it and form your own opinion if you want to know what it’s like enough to scroll through all these reviews.

Sick quick read

Wow. That grabbed you and left you breathless in a short amount of time. This is my first taste of Joe Hill and I’m walking away satisfied.

I was looking for something creepy and this short story definitely did the trick! Stay out of Maine;)

the end is good

there was….a lot about covid in this. felt very forced and took a lot away from the story.

Well-narrated, visceral folk-horror at its finest.

Joe Hill hits the horror on its mewling head with this short tale. Will leave you disturbed. Bravo!

Mispent Potential

There are the bones of a truly disturbing and unsettling story here. Unfortunately those bones are obscured in the gaudy and flimsy flesh of mediocre writing and wooden characterization.

The performance is admirably well delivered in spite of the decidedly mid material. If younhave this on in the background and try not to listen too closely it is almost and enjoyable experience.

Gory & Predictable-Excellent Narration

I had heard of the author, but this was the first story of his I had read. I had the ending figured out by the time the couple had moved in. I've read too many Preston and Child books so it is very difficult to surprise me. It was well written and very gory. Did stop too soon and some ends not tied up. With this book I have now read the entire series. My favorite was the ankle biter. Far spookier without all the gore and a more frightening ending. My favorite Amazon Original series remains the two seasons of Nameless. Narration was excellent.
