Publisher's Summary

Using principles from cognitive psychology, Nick Kolenda developed a unique way to subconsciously influence people's thoughts. He developed a "mind reading" stage show depicting that phenomenon, and his demonstrations have been seen by over a million people across the globe.

Methods of Persuasion reveals that secret for the first time. You'll learn how to use those principles to influence people's thoughts in your own life.

Drawing from academic research in psychology, the entire book culminates a powerful 7-step persuasion process that follows the acronym, METHODS:

  • Step 1: Mold Their Perception
  • Step 2: Elicit Congruent Attitudes
  • Step 3: Trigger Social Pressure
  • Step 4: Habituate Your Message
  • Step 5: Optimize Your Message
  • Step 6: Drive Their Momentum
  • Step 7: Sustain Their Compliance

This book teaches you the psychology behind each step. You'll learn how to apply METHODS to your own life so that you can influence people's thoughts, emotions, and behavior in nearly any situation.

Robert Cialdini “Influence” repurposed

Most of these methods come straight from the book “Influence” from Robert Cialdini. All great information just pitched slightly differently. Still a good read for those who have not read “Influence.”

Read this book first!!

Cognitive science is my passion and hobby. I’ve read all of Cialdinis works, thinking fast and slow (kahneman), multiple “Great Courses” on the subject, Malcom gladwell, and many others. While I can honestly say that I didn’t learn anything new, Nick has done an amazing job condensing all the facts down with incisive brevity. It is not drawn out like most of the other books. If you are new to this topic, Start With This Book first!

something for everybody

this is a great book for someone who is first getting into this way of thinking or someone who already knows their way around. The book is broken up into nice chunks so it's not too overwhelming and also towards the end Works back around to work in the beginning points that are sometimes forgotten.

One suggestion!

Absolutely love the book. I can see that many of the concepts will be used in all aspects of my life. Thank you.

You used one technique that you did not mention. Humor! It was done subtlety and just right. Humor primes our good mood and sets the stage. Perhaps this could be its own section?

Again, thank you for an awesome book!

Thoroughly enjoyable

This was an extremely enjoyable audible book, the narrator did a fantastic job. It felt like listening to a story by a friend. Extremely engaging and full of interesting techniques. I'm not too sure how much I have actually absorbed, it definitely requires a second round of listening - something I'm looking forward to revisiting.

Packed full of ideas and applications

Unlike traditional self help books that have one or two ideas and lots of padding, this is packed full of ideas, concepts and applications. Can’t recommend highly enough.

recycled examples

overall the book has some valuable nuggets in
but too be completely honest a lot of the examples are just taken from other books like influence
literally looks like a copy and paste job.
only its explained with way less detail and research.
almost effortlessly written.
I am dissapointed

That said it does have some information which I found interesting.

but, overall Its easy listen too however i wouldnt recommend this book if it was your first in this category, simply because the book influence does explain things a lot better

Common sense stuff. Waste of hours

This is all common sense stuff. I wasted my valuable time by finishing it in its entirety hoping to hear something new. It does contain some interesting experiments I hadn't heard of before but very few really. Its boring and ultimately pointless. Nothing at all he said worked on me personally either. Not a single thing (example pick a number, think of something, blah blah blah etc). Just pointless don't waste your time with this stage magician.

Disappointed with this book because....

I thought this was going to be one of those average information guidance book. Boy was I wrong. This is an amazing book with easy practical tips to follow, some of which I applied before finishing the book. Enjoy and learn.

Very good

Very informative read into psychology, persuasion, and behavioral sciences. I am a long time student of behavioral economics and this book tied in not only some areas of study that I have already encountered (even from one of my lecturers) but other principles that I may not have thought to relate back.

It's inspired me to continue my research and perhaps even write something myself.
