The story is fantastic. The narrator did a great job giving the characters unique voices and making the dialogue work
This is the second book and ends the Sydney arc with a bang. There is plenty of magic and action.

The stakes should be higher in this book, but the most important scenes are bland, anticlimactic, senseless. I'd expect some key characters to have better judgement (and powers), but they don't and are easily overpowered. Strangely enough, characters that by all means shouldn't be powerful actually are, which is just bad writing since there was no previous build-up/hints in the story.
