I like Anthony Bourdain.

If you could sum up Medium Raw in three words, what would they be?

Food, Fascination, Folklore

What other book might you compare Medium Raw to and why?

Kitchen Confidential, because Medium Raw was its sequel. A worthy one, too.

What about Anthony Bourdain’s performance did you like?

In Kitchen Confidential, his performance was perfunctory, but it didn't bother me because I liked the stories. In Medium Raw, his narration style improved significantly, and closer to his television performance. Listening to this, you can tell his passion in certain subjects. It's personal, and personal is good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Day off, comfortable couch, and maybe a glass of wine.

Any additional comments?

If you are not into Anthony Bourdain or world of culinary art in America, chances are you will not like this one.

You must read its prequel, Kitchen Confidential, before you start on this one. For continuation's sake, and better understanding in how Anthony Bourdain came to be, well, Anthony Bourdain. They are memoirs, but they read like a good novel. I'm waiting patiently for the next book.

A masterpiece

The way he tells stories is so seamless and amazing. He’s was a natural with words. Rip.

Bourdain at his finest

Great, Bourdains story telling is extraordinary I would highly recommend this as a listen. If you are a chef or interested in being one this is a must.

Sadly, it did not live up to my expections

After reading Kitchen Confidential many years ago, and being such a huge fan of No Reservations, I was very excited to listen to Medium Raw.

For me, it lacked much of what made Kitchen Confidential so ground breaking - the insider info we wouldn't ordinarily get access to (no sushi on Monday's etc!). Quite often, the book would turn into ramblings against people Bourdain holds a grudge against.

There were a few enjoyable moments, but those were few and far between. If you're a fan of Bourdain, definitely read it - but don't go into it with huge expectations as I have done, and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Not quite a coherent book

Feels more like an assembly of newspaper columns - but evocative of food experiences around the world. Some interesting reflections, but I can’t guarantee that you will finish up liking the author....

You can eat fish on Monday!

I loved Kitchen Confidential and this is a great follow up. It updates Tony's story as well as some of his characters.

Great followup to Kitchen Confidential

Bourdain's style is brilliant, relaxed, well written and humorous. If you have an interest in chefs or cooking (or travel), there's something here for you. Thoroughly enjoyable read!

why didn't I read this earlier?

Book was great, loved Bourdains descriptions of places he's been to around the world - towards the end it went on a bit long.

A great ride.

Really enjoy his method and storytelling. Such a pity he is no longer with us.
