Publisher's Summary

The witness-protection program has given me the fresh start of which I've always dreamed. A new home. A new name. A new life. For the first time in 10 years, it feels like I can breathe again.

But the cost of freedom is more than I bargained for. I put my foster father behind bars. It doesn't matter that he deserved it. What matters is that he's powerful, manipulative, and now, he wants me dead.

I can feel someone watching me. I know my time is running out. The only other person who cares if I live or die is a masked stranger. So I'm putting my life in the vigilante's hands - and maybe a piece of my heart along with it. Even though I'm worried that he's just as dangerous as the man I sent to prison.

Not as advertised

First this is a YA book not adult fiction. Second, if the main character could have made a decision this book would only have been half as long. I was so frustrated in her inability to decide between the 3 men in her life. This should also be advertised as a CLIFFHANGER. I feel like I just wasted 8 hours reading this book, because I will not be reading the next one. I’m sure it’s equally frustrating.

captivating

In a world full of darkness who can be trusted? Summer's story is full of heartache that oozes into my soul. I found myself wanting to be the one to help her find the light she feels she's lost. I'm so immersed in her life I find i have to continue this journey with her.

Cliffhanger

The heroine is an 18 year old college freshman, the plot is nonsensical, there’s some kind of love triangle or maybe a quadrangle, I’m not sure who the hero is, it is decidedly not a romance, and it ends on a cliffhanger. Nope.

Finding Your True Self

I enjoyed this book. It was my first audible book. I felt so much for Summer/Sadie. She had such a hard life starting at age 8! She is strong but she doesn’t know it! I admired her courage in what she was being forced to do - to try to have a new life!

Cliffhanger

I really hate cliffhangers. It took me until the last of the book to get into it, then it ended and left me hanging. I feel like I was cheated and they want you to get sucked in and spend money for more. My last Ivy buy. Elizabeth Hart was a great narrator.

Stupid Martyr

Being young and naive is acceptable. Being physically and emotionally scarred it's understandable. I could even buy a train wreck, a woe-is-me, too dumb to believe martyr is enough to knock down a good plot and narration.

It’s ok

I’m not a book expert but for some reason it bothers me that “Sadie” kept saying how strong she was or how she’s made of steel but she gives up so easily. Good series but wish she was stronger.

Suspenseful read!

Made of Steel by Ivy Smoak is book one of the Made of Steel series.

As far as the story goes, I'm REALLY trying to get into it... but it's been difficult.

The female protagonist Summer/Sadie is just so... honestly, I don't have a word to describe her but the girl just can not make up her mind and all the back and forth is driving me absolutely crazy.

There are enough unanswered questions that I'm going to go ahead and begin the next book and see how things go. Like we still have no idea who the masked vigilante is and although I have my suspicions I'd really like to find out for sure but I'm really hoping the story becomes a bit more clearer.

It's almost like the author has tried to throw in a few too many genres in one book, a severely abused female protagonist, a love triangle, a second chance romance, and then a little mafia action on the side. It's just a little too much going on and that makes it hard to keep up with the story.

Now, as far as the audio, now that I've listened to quite a few reads, I know a bit more about what exactly I'M looking for. Hart did a great job at differentiating the female and male voices BUT there were a couple of male characters with dialogue and those voices were very similar. If I drifted off from the book for a few minutes I would need to rewind or really listen to figure out which male character the dialogue was coming from. I did like the way she changed her tone during emotional dialogue when the character was upset, it was almost like her voice shook. I could really FEEL the emotion she was putting into the scene. I'm interested to see how things go in book two, Forged in Flames.

Bit boring

This story took a quite a while to get going and then when it finally got interesting it the booked finished on a cliff hanger but not a good enough written story to make me want to get the next.

Poor

I kept at it in the hope it would improve sadly that didn’t happen. Narration by Elizabeth Hart was good but even she sounded bored at times.

I’m sorry this could have been amazing but it’s just so limp. Needless to say I shall not be buying the other two.

Best For Teenagers

This was ok, predictable and aimed at the younger audience. I don’t even want to read the second instalment, just not for me.
