Publisher's Summary

Cross the border. Discover the truth.

Listening with headphones recommended.

How far would you go to expose the truth when even you can’t believe it?

Vivica Fox and Teresa Ruiz lead an all-star cast in a story that blends thriller, mystery, and psychological horror for a truly unforgettable listening experience.

Fox stars as Tory Newton, a single, no-nonsense woman traveling on business to a bustling border town. When women protesters disrupt the Governor’s big pitch, Tory is thrown together with Alicia, a beguiling activist who promises to reveal a huge scandal. Tory is hooked, in more ways than one - not realizing exactly what she’s being reeled into.

Presented in found-audio style, Loops takes listeners through increasingly unpredictable twists and turns, jumping back and forth in time. The story hurdles towards a truly jaw-dropping conclusion that will have audiences re-playing earlier passages for revealing clues.

Along with Vivica Fox (Empire) and Teresa Ruiz (Narcos: Mexico), the cast includes Feliz Ramirez (Grand Hotel), Yul Vazquez (Russian Doll), Antonio Jaramillo (Mayans MC), and Carlos Santos (Gentefied).

Suspenseful, Unusual Audio Drama

First off, this is an audio drama, not a novel. Somehow a couple other reviewers managed to click “buy” without reading the description (or listening to the sample clip), and completely missed that point. They then chose to give it bad reviews simply because it wasn’t what they had presumed it to be.
I will admit that the story can be a challenge to follow at times, but that’s intentional. It’s presented as “found” digital recordings - an early one of which mentions a glitch happening, that results in some of the saved recordings being out of sequence and/or unintentionally repeating parts.
There is also (for lack of a better term) a supernatural element that comes into play, part way through (that is never 100% explained, but I would argue doesn’t necessarily need to be for the story to work).
The unusual structure, and unexplained aspects are meant to build suspense and intrigue. And how well that works is going to come down to where your personal threshold is, for how long you’ll let a story go before it gives up some answers - as well as how many details you’re willing to accept as unexplained.
Me personally, when I reached the end, my first thought was to give it a second listen, hoping to spot things I didn’t pick up on the first time. But others may just throw up their hands and go, “that’s it?”. And that’s fair, depending upon what does and doesn’t work for you.
Again, to be clear this is a full-cast audio drama, with full sound-design. It is not a novel read to you by a narrator. Audio drama by the way is not AT ALL a new thing; it’s been around since the 1920’s (a full century ago). If it’s not your thing, that’s fine and all, but it’s not a valid reason for leaving a negative review. Same goes for if you presumed it to be something that it clearly isn’t. (If you thought you were buying a donut, but it was actually a bagel and you just weren’t paying enough attention, would you publish a review of what a bad donut it was?)
To sum up: The acting is excellent, as is the sound-design. The story is good, and intriguing, and a total rabbit hole of WTF, but may require a second listen and/or a willingness to let some things remain unexplained and unresolved.

Great

Loved it and the narrator was a very good story teller and I felt like I was part of the story.

Not My Cup Of Tea

I LOVED Vivica and all of the actors but this story was horrible. It was like listening to a TV show instead of a book, in that if no one is talking, you have no idea what's going on and in a lot of those cases what's going on is important to the story. This would be 1000 times better if they added a narrator.

Slight SPOILER:
I would have also liked to know before hand that this had a supernatural element to the story.

Worst Audiobook Ever

This book was a fail fro Minute One. The lack of narrative and storyline, and the multiple voices, was akin to listening to a movie you never heard of before without seeing the video. How was this a good idea? I want my money back.

I still don’t get it

I’m really not sure what happened in the story about corruption and murder. The acting was great but I’m scratching my head but not compelled to go back and listen.

This is absolute garbage

1200 titles completed and this has been the worst. The performance is ok but the frequent tape grinding and skipping sound effects combined with a story that makes absolutely no sense leaves this product at the bottom of the barrel. Seriously, skip this. I was looking forward to it based on the description. I went into it knowing what type of production it was. I just wasn't prepared for 5 hours of pointless dialog with no point, no cohesion, and no satisfaction.

Under no circumstances can I recommend this nonsense. If you need a suggestion on what to spend that credit on, I can recommend 1199 others I'd pick over this. And if this was the only selection available, I still would not choose it. I'd re-read something else.

If you bought this like I did, may God have mercy on your soul.

Senseless narrative

I listened to this book for about 1.5 hours and it appeared to be going in circles around around a theme of a reporter of some kind trying to help a drunken or drugged young lady. It was going nowhere.
