Knox Township, August 1863.

Sentiments are running high following the battle of Gettysburg, and although the draft has not yet come to Knox, "Bloody Knox" will claim lives the next year as citizens attempt to avoid the Union draft. Clara's brother Solomon is missing, and Clara has been left to manage the family's farm, caring for her mother and her younger sister, Cecelia.

Meanwhile, wounded at the battle of Monterey Pass but still able to escape Union forces, Jasper and his friend, Horace, are lost and starving. Jasper wants to find his way back to the Confederacy but feels honor-bound to bring Horace back to his family, though the man seems reluctant.

If you could sum up Little Love Affair: Civil War Romance in three words, what would they be?

Sweet, intriguing, easy to like.

Which character – as performed by Ian Gordon – was your favorite?

I don't know. I liked his narration, but did they all have British accents during the civil war period? I would say NO, but I wasn't there, so *shrugs* what do I know. Once I got over the idea, I did really enjoy Mr. Gordon's performance.

Any additional comments?

This sweet story is very easy to listen to, and it's intriguing enough to keep you interested. The story wraps up nice and tidy. It wasn't very long, but it doesn't leave you having to purchase the next installment. :) It left me wanting more though, wishing... I could have happily listened to a few more hours with these characters! I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

SWEET Romance!

Narration - Ian Gordon - He has a lovely narration voice with a British accent. Good storyteller, my only question is what accents did "American's" have during the civil war? Did Americans's still speak with their native accents? When did we lose all the British, Irish, Scottish, German etc... and develop the Southern Twang? Just a thought...I honestly am curious.
ANYWAY, back to the review...he's a pretty good narrator. Pretty believable females, nice, smooth narrative style.

The story was a clean romance, with our heroine being left behind to run the farm while her brother goes off to war. There's a wealthy neighbor who could solve all their money problems, but she's just not feeling him.

Along comes Jasper - a soldier who approaches the girls to beg for food, and even though Clara runs him off, she can't stop thinking about him. So, you pretty much know where this is going.

The story was a bit predictable, but the narration is enjoyable enough that it was a nice listen.

A Bit Predictable

A nice little short book that leaves you smiling. This is the 1st book in the Southern Romance series and I can't wait to continue the story of Jasper and Cara. Their love was sweet and innocent that keeps you smiling. Ian Gordon did a wonderful narrating, though I do question if North Americans still held a British accent during the Civil War.

If you love short romance stories, this is a nice gem to pass the time.

Cute Little Book

I am reading this for a romance challenge and although this is not my typical genre I came in with an open mind. The narration of this book was done quite well and helped keep me interested in the story. I had a real hard time connecting to these characters even though the story had promise. I’m not quite sure what I felt it was missing but just had too hard of a time. That being said I would be willing to try another by this author to see if maybe it was just this book.

Near Gettysburg in 1863, Clara is trying to help her family's farm survive when she encounters Jasper and Horace, Conferate soldiers injured at the battle of Monterey Pass.

Good narration. A family saga. Read in series order.
