Publisher's summary

Welcome to the world of Axis Mundi, a techno-magic world powered by the will of the gods. And, yes, the term gods refer to all the beings in ancient mythology that were considered to be mere stories.

You think Zeus is just a story? Think again.

Matteo awakens to find that he is one of hundreds of thousands of people who have been mysteriously spirited away to the world of Axis Mundi to become players.

Each player is automatically part of a class. Your class is determined by a roll of the die. You could be in one of the powerful classes - such as class Zeus, named for the Greek god of the sky, where players have skills such as thunder and electricity manipulation, shock-wave bursts, increased damaged output from their weapons, awesome armor, and so on. Or, players could be part of the many other powerful classes that populate the world of Axis Mundi.

Unfortunately for Matteo, he finds himself in class Xipe Totec, Aztec god of agriculture. Provided with no weapons or special abilities, he is simply thrust into the world with a few simple instructions and forced to survive. However, Matteo has one thing that most people in the game do not: He already knows the world of Axis Mundi. After all, he played an RPG based on Axis Mundi back on Earth. And he knows about the mysterious world in minute detail.

Now, armed with just his wits and knowledge, Matteo must learn to face not just gods and monsters, magical weapons, and superpowers but also friendships, betrayals, loyalty, and, most importantly, survival.

Because in this world, one wrong move could mean the loss of your freedom. Or death.

Mythology-lite!

The story is advertised as litRPG but it’s very light on any sort of game mechanics excluding leveling up. The characters are a bit bland, with no background save Mateo, and that’s not much. We’ve experienced this plot many times before; people pulled into an other-worldly game for some odd or unknown reason. This time it’s for the mythological god's enjoyment. Our MC Mateo has been playing the RL Axis Mundi game for some time and is quite the expert. This gives him an advantage when he awakens in the virtual world game. From that point, he must gather other players under his banner to fight the bad guys' clan. It’s an endearing story but it needs some zest. Three.point.five for potential. A very promising new LITRPG

This story is well written and well narrated. The MC is a an easy to like completionist whose knowledge of the game world is extensive. His nemesis is a PVP easy to hate villain. The premise of the immersion is unique and with devastating real world consequences. The companions, quests and battles are engaging and the dynamics added by the gods of the world will leave you twisting and turning through the weaving of the plot. Highly recommend. A Tale that Transcends Space and Time

What a captivating story! I found myself mesmerized by the wonderful narration of this great read. The story absolutely reminded me of “Ready Player One” in the best way imaginable. I am so glad I stumbled upon this book and I hope to see more in the way of a series developing and growing this world even further.

Really good!

It was great! Except I personally would have liked Matteo to have more special powers. That’s it, I fully recommend this book

Short and sweet

A good LitRPG listen, and a short one too. Not too bad, narration is good.

Percy Jackson meets Hunger Games

Although the story was a bit slow in the beginning, it definitely picked up after chapter 3 with great character development. The accents were a nice touch. The narrator really captured the different personalities of the characters during their conflict. I think my favorite was the sarcastic comic relief of the 12 yr old, Kenji (sp?). I'm looking forward to the next book to see what happens to Mateo and his new friends.

engaging!

Good story and narration!

As a well-known loaner in the world's most popular VR game, our MC gets transported into a new world of intrigue that seems to be based on the video game with which he is so familiar. In this new world other players may prove to be even more dangerous than the monsters as people find themselves forced into slavery or play the role of NPCs while others battling each other in the name of the gods. Will he find a place and a role to play, or will he perish like so many before him?

Good narration that brings the characters to life and helps the story to be engaging.

I enjoyed the story, and can't wait to find out what happens next!
