Publisher's summary

Some days, fighting crime, just doesn’t pay.

FBI Profiler, Leo Reeves, has settled into his new job and his new life in Los Angeles. Working with Max Prince every day in the office is fulfilling but not as satisfying as burning up the sheets with him every night at home. Their first case together as partners resulted in the bad guys either behind bars or six feet under, but neither man thinks they’ve put an end to the murderous ring. As time goes on, and they interview the ones they did manage to arrest, the agents realize a much larger organization is at work.

Could a criminal mastermind be controlling multiple cells of murderers?

When one of their team is gunned down in a senseless mass shooting, Leo and Max are fueled by a new motive…rage. As more of the corpses from their first case are identified, new information about the kidnapping ring begins to emerge. When they realize copycats are mirroring the work of famous serial killers, things go from bad to worse. For Leo, working as a profiler has always been his passion but he begins to rethink everything when one copycat starts skinning his victims.

When they connect the gunman to a notorious criminal biker gang, things get even uglier.

On top of everything else, Max’s past comes back to bite him when his sweet pooch is threatened by a stalker. And if they haven’t led a life filled with complications until now, Leo and Max learn an old nemesis of Snow and McCallahan is connected to the case. From the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown L.A. to the scorching deserts around Victorville, criminals seem to be coming out of the woodwork to mess with them both.

enjoyed it

📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, interesting story.
I really want to become absorbed in these characters and their adventures, but Leo and Max are just lacking that "something" that I've found with other series of this author. The premise behind the story is interesting enough that I will persist, but I'm not sure if Leo's "skills as a profiler" are actually adding much to this team and it's left me wanting more.

🎧 Narrator comment: I enjoy Michael Dean as a narrator, he has good cadence, inflections and intonations, he has a good variety of character voices, there is consistency of Characters from Logan's other series books he's performed and it was easy to get lost in the story. Overall an enjoyable performance.

This Series is on Fire

I love this series and this story is an interesting progression of the overall series story. It's even better when you add in the narration by Michael Dean. I can't wait for book 3.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

an incredibly intriguing story

There is a lot packed into this book and I enjoyed every bit of it. Leo and Max are good together. I believe I like this book even more than the first one in this series. Michael Dean’s narration made an excellent book even better.

Ahh....

I have been reading and listening to Patricia Logan's books for a little over 2 years. From her early stuff until now, she has grown so much.

Without giving away spoilers this was a great listen. I love that we get to see our favorite characters from her other series. The way she incorporates them into each story is awesome.

As always Michael Dean is a treat to listen to. Almost any story where he is the narrator is a good listen.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you loved her Death and Destruction series, you'll love this. I did.

On Fire Indeed!

This new series keeps me on my toes. The story becoming more complex as more details are revealed. It is fast paced and intense. The ending left me wanting for more.

Michael Dean’s narration adds a different awesome layer to the story. Always a perfect combo of Patricia Logan book and Michael Dean’s narration.

I am loving this series

So freaking good. The copycat serial killers are really sick. One of them is like Leo's father & is a huge trigger for him. So this book picks up where the first one left off, so I do not recommend reading this one until you have read the first book. The team gets a bead on a biker gang who is cooking & moving meth & appears to be involved in the kidnappings & giving them to the killers. When Snow is seriously injured, Max is temporarily put in charge of the team. They find out who is behind some of this, but I don't think they have found the actual head of these killers. Leo & Max are a strong unit & I love how Max is strong for Leo when he needs it. They make an awesome couple, both at work & personally. This book takes you on a wild ride & keeps you on the edge of your seat. The book does end on a cliffhanger as they are still hunting down all the players. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

The woman is like fine wine...

well a fine wine from last night's dinner party that you are swigging the next day as your body is wrecked with a hangover but her stories just keep getting better and better.

Michael does a great job bringing this story to life.

Seriously, don't pass on this series.
