“The Golden Brat” Reinhard von Lohengramm, a military prodigy and admiral of the Galactic Empire, has ambitions beyond protecting the borders or even defeating the Empire’s enemies. He seeks to overthrow the old order and become a truly absolute—yet benevolent—dictator. His rival, the humble Yang Wen-li of the Free Planets Alliance, wishes to preserve democracy even if he must sacrifice his political ideals to defeat the Empire. Their political and military battles play out over a galactic chessboard in an epic saga fifteen centuries in the making! Adventure Fantasy Military Science Fiction Space Opera

No wonder that this story has been translate in several different media in Its home country; it is insightful and deep, not to mention a truly exciting military background.
Can't wait to listen to the rest of the series!

Awesome!

Numerous characters development a little confusing, but loved the narrator again. Enjoyed some of the plot changes

If you like Anime and Space Operas this is the perfect audiobook for you.

I had heard of this anime series before but did not know until recently it had been adapted later into novel form. This is as space opera as science fiction gets in my opinion. Large scale space ship battles, strategy, and political plotting. The first part is sets the stage with a bit of a history lesson but isn't too dry.

The narrator does a great job telling the story. I have had great books ruined by terrible narration. Seriously, whenever I see a book narrated by the author I cringe.

As Space Opera as it Gets!

After watching both of the anime series and listing to the book, I have come to the conclusion, like with most adaptations, that nothing beats the book. While the anime adaptations closely follow the book, the added internal dialog that you get with both Yang and Rinehard flesh out the characters more and give you a better feel for who each of them are as characters. In addition, the first chapter really dose a fantastic job at fleshing out the history of the universe so you get a good feel for why things have progressed the way they have. Each of the battles that take place during the novel are riveting and keep me guessing on how it will turn out. In addition, I am interested in seeing the part that Earth will play in the future. The only downside I can see with this franchise is that I don't see any volume past 3 having an audio book. It is disappointing to think that part way through the series I will have to switch to a different medium, but I will cross that bridge once I get to it.

Nothing beats the book
