La Marchesa di Merteuil e il Visconte di Valmont sono due nobili francesi senza scrupoli che si divertono a manipolare il cuore dei loro poveri amanti. Quando l’ultimo amante della Marchesa la abbandona per sposarsi una donna più giovane, lei chiama a rapporto il suo amico Valmont incaricandolo di sedurre la giovane promessa sposa mandando così a monte il matrimonio. Ma i giochi del cuore danno dipendenza e quando il Visconte si innamora della castissima Madame de Tourvel, la Marchesa farà di tutto per rovinare la vita e la reputazione di entrambi.
Le voci di Fabio Bezzi e Debora Zuin trasportano l'ascoltatore dentro le vicende dei due protagonisti con una maestria infinita alleggerendo lo stile letterario settecentesco con toni briosi e pieni di malizia. Inoltre, la scelta della dualità di voci si sposa perfettamente con il carattere epistolare del romanzo, come se chi ascolta potesse leggere dentro le menti contorte rispettivamente della Marchesa e del Visconte.
Questo grande classico ha ispirato molti registi e compositori e sono molteplici gli adattamenti che ne sono stati fatti in tutti i generi, dal cinema alla tv fino all'pera. La trasposizione cinematografica più famosa è sicuramente quella del 1988 diretta da Stephen Frears che vede John Malkovich nel ruolo di Valmont, Glenn Close in quello di Madame De Merteuil, Michelle Pfeiffer come Madame de Tourvel ed una giovanissima Uma Thurman nel ruolo di Cécile de Volanges.
