Publisher's Summary

"A five-alarm fire of a situation…the surprises keep coming." (The New York Times)

Secrets, obsession and vengeance converge in this riveting thriller about an online dating match turned deadly cat-and-mouse game, from the New York Times best-selling author of Confessions on the 7:45

She met him through a dating app. An intriguing picture on a screen, a date at a downtown bar. What she thought might be just a quick hookup quickly became much more. She fell for him - hard. It happens sometimes, a powerful connection with a perfect stranger takes you by surprise. Could it be love?

But then, just as things were getting real, he stood her up. Then he disappeared - profiles deleted, phone disconnected. She was ghosted.

Maybe it was her fault. She shared too much, too fast. But isn't that always what women think - that they're the ones to blame? Soon she learns there were others. Girls who thought they were in love. Girls who later went missing. She had been looking for a connection, but now she's looking for answers. Chasing a digital trail into his dark past - and hers - she finds herself on a dangerous hunt. And she's not sure whether she's the predator - or the prey.

Boring story and narrator

I found this book boring. I really disliked the tone of the narrator, and the story was not compelling at all. I almost quit after an hour or so, but was too lazy to find another book so I kept it on in the background while doing other things. I eventually got tired enough that I googled the ending just to see if I would miss out on anything exciting (it was not any surprise/twist in my opinion), and moved on. I'm sure there will be some people who like the book though.

20's?

a universe does not exist in which this person is in her 20's. no offense to the narrator, she did a great job, but she doesn't come across in voice or prose as a 20 something. I am 41 and she sounds like she's my mom.

3 month relationship and this in love?

Yeah, weak, very weak premise. Because of this, the storyline just borders on overly saccharine and well, ridiculous.

Narrator sounds like she is constantly in a breathless state of exasperation. Over plays the drama card.

The writing is verbose, overly saturated with description so the narrative lacks a decent clip.

This book almost killed me…

Thought it would be fun to turn listening to this book into a drinking game, so, I set the parameters of my game as to taking a shot every time I heard the word “layers.” Three trips to the liquor store and two missed days at work later, I finally finished. I may need a new liver. But…If you decide to play this game, maybe try the word “Ghost.”

Seriously though, I liked the book well enough. But I’ve never encountered a book in which I actually got tired of hearing a certain word. Yup, you guessed it, layers. 😆

Had Potential

The summary was different, the story wasn't. It was parts of predictability and parts absurdity.

It could have been an exceptional book if more thought was put into it. Some parts made no sense logically. She packs up and heads home with no rationale to it. The ending was done by picking the worst decisions possible. Only an idiot would have actually followed that path. Then, she insists on referring to people constantly by their first and last names. That just got weird. Decent book, just a lazy author.

Just ok. Didn’t hate it but didn’t love it. It was very slow until the end.

Lisa Unger you have really outdone yourself this time setting a high benchmark for your next book. The performer, Vivienne Leheny was superb, and no one could have done a better job. I absolutely thoroughly recommend this audiobook.

great plot but not a great execution

I felt like the story had good bones but ultimately it dragged on and on.

Twist and curves

I have never listened to Lisa Unger book. I was not let down at all. Kept me in action enough not to feel like I needed to put another book on. The ending is exactly how I hoped it would in.

You will not be disappointed in this book
