When a man is found dead, mutilated in his house, DS Wendy Knight and DCI Jack Culverhouse soon realise that Jeff Brelsford was killed for one reason: He was a paedophile. As Wendy does her job and tries to find the killer, Culverhouse is less keen. As far as he's concerned, this is justice.

Story
Abigail Sutton's beloved husband walks out one night, doesn't return, and two years later is found dead, a victim of a long ago crime. It's made her sympathetic to the missing and their families. Starting her new life, Abigail moves to small town and buys a fixer-upper house left empty when old Edna Summers died. Once it was also home to Edna's younger sister, Emily, and her two children, Jenny and Christopher, who, people believe, drove away one night, thirty years ago, and just never came back.

Sorry I chose this one!
This book is a huge disappointment as far as I am concerned. I tried to get through the first book in this trio, however, the narrator is one of the worst and his accent is really annoying. I can't get past this and understand what the book is about. Returning for one credit.

Adam Croft creates a new Gene Hunt
In the Knight and Culverhouse first 3 books Adam Croft has created a Gene Hunt for the noughties. Jack Culverhouse embodies all of the policing made famous by Jack Reagan (for those of us old enough to remember The Sweeny) and Gene Hunt in the brilliant Life on Mars. Culverhouse believes that policing has become far too PC and not in Police Constable sense, and feels it is his job to bring back the bad cop in the good cop bad cop scenario. I love this character, he made me laugh out loud. As to the books, they are pretty well thought out and flow at just the perfect pace to make them enjoyable. Is Adam Croft a great author? Only time will tell. Is he a brilliant and talented story teller? ABSOLUTELY!!! Well done Adam!

Incredibly boring on all counts
I love finding new authors and crime series. But what a disappointment. Due to sight problems both my husband and I have to read audio books, so we are used to them. This one sent me to sleep numerous times in the first 10 chapters. I struggled on but the author reading his own book, always a bad mistake, droned on and on, hardly any change in the character's voices. And very little emotion either. The story was not worth listening to either. Don't bother.
