Resumen del Editor

From the best-selling author of Cry Baby, the beginning of a brilliant and gripping police procedural series set in Liverpool, perfect for fans of Peter James and Mark Billingham.

A woman at home in Liverpool is disturbed by a persistent tapping at her back door. She's disturbed to discover the culprit is a raven and tries to shoo it away. Which is when the killer strikes.

DS Nathan Cody, still bearing the scars of an undercover mission that went horrifyingly wrong, is put on the case. But the police have no leads except the body of the bird - and the victim's missing eyes.

As flashbacks from his past begin to intrude, Cody realises he is battling not just a murderer but his own inner demons, too. And then the killer strikes again, and Cody realises the threat isn't to the people of Liverpool after all - it's to the police.

Following the success and acclaim of the Callum Doyle novels, A Tapping at My Door is the first instalment of David Jackson's new Nathan Cody series.

A bit of a letdown

A good story that lets you fown when the plot is revealed. The tenuous strands of fiction that you need to hold in disbelief make the ending lackluster.

Intriguing Plot and Great Performance

set in Liverpool England, this British procedural has a very tight, interesting plot that's a real page-turner. The performance was fabulous and keeping up the tension and the fast pace that kept me up at night. I look forward to listening to the next book after the Cciffhanger at the end of this first book in the series.

Dark and twisty

Parts if it can get slow but overall worth the listen. I like the performance as well helps you keep the characters straight as you follow along.

Narration holds the power with this audiobook.

Sometimes, it isn't until an audiobook is done that one realizes how important the narrating talent was to the experience. Sure, the book's author put the words to page but the narrator turns it into the performance that holds a listener's focus. Ideally, these two elements balance each other out to create a good experience when combined, but sometimes one side of the equation will out balance the other.

In "A Tapping At My Door" a slight imbalance turns out well for the audio experience. It isn't until the book is over that one realizes the story itself was actually fairly simple with a mystery that more or less resolves itself without giving it's audience a chance to try and piece anything together. Even the thriller aspects are tame enough to be predictable when recalling the story, but what makes it thrilling anyway is Johnathan Keeble's narration.

In fact, Johnathan Keeble's tense and stressed voice holds the whole thing up better than the details do. His narration has a listener feel the psychological stresses of the main character, Nathan Cody, and the rest of the characters to the point where the audiobook feels urgent, attention grabbing, and worth the time.

This book is recommended to listeners who like a bit of drama mixed into their thrillers along with a good example on how to narrate one.

a good psychological thriller

well developed characters. a cliff hanger of an ending which is making me look for a sequel, even at full price!

Disappointing story. Unlikeable protagonist.

I found myself hoping Cody, the protagonist, was the killer. No other end was going to be satisfying for me. As such, I was disappointed in the ending. I don’t need the central character to be perfect but he needs some redeeming qualities. Only in the last chapter did he show any signs of caring about anyone but himself. I struggled to finish this book and will not be reading any others in the Liverpool series.

This wasn’t my favorite book. It wasn’t bad just not great. The narrator did a great job.

5 Star Start, Wowed.

It's rare for me to give the highest rating to the start of a series. I'm reserved because usually the characters don't quite mesh or the mystery is an easy one that will build in upcoming books. But, wow, this one is a grand exception. The way Jackson describes the relationships makes the reader feel like you already know the personalities and just can't wait to learn more about them. He delivers with this as well as the character development is deep and engaging. There isn't a single page that was boring; the suspense is dark and intriguing. The mystery had me foiled to the very end. The downside is having to wait for the next installment. Oh, and if you like soccer at all, this book has enough thrown in to really make it worth the time to read it. Highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys British detective stories.
