Publisher's summary

Philip Pullman garnered every accolade with the breathtaking His Dark Materials trilogy. Now he turns his storytelling gifts to one of the most famous of the Arabian Nights tales: Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp.

Aladdin is a shiftless good-for-nothing boy until he unwittingly acquires a magic lamp inhabited by a genie - and the adventure that follows both makes his fortune and makes him a man.

Pullman tells the tale with his trademark crisp writing and fast-paced action.

well read and very entertaining for both me and my child. much better than watching the Disney movie. like books, audio versions force you to use your imagination.

An authentic rendering of the 1001 Nights' Aladdin

What a joy to listen! Philip Pullman has respected the 'Alif Leila wa Leilah (1000 Nights and a Night). With Disney's stamp on Aladdin, it is difficult to find an un-Disney-fied version of the story. Using his literary genius Pullman weaves a literary masterpiece in the WAY he tells the story, while staying true to the essence of the original story. By situating Aladdin in China and Morocco, Pullman illustrates that he is up to date with the latest academic opinions about the 1001 Nights, lending more gravitas to his retelling.

James Goode transports you to an exotic China and Morocco. As a voice master, he brings Pullman's descriptions exquisitely to life. I can still picture how the evil sorceress "scissors "to the forbidden cave of treasure, while lazy Aladdin struggles to follow. The genies are both more real and instil fear.

This short audio retelling of Aladdin is a breath of fresh air. Pullman and Good revives a story that has too often been devoured by commercial interests and blockbuster-type tropes.

I would suggest that you buy the story paying money. Do not use a credit as it is about an hour long.
