Story
The 5 Second Rule is a guide to transforming people and directing them towards taking action, changing their behavior, and taking on the challenges of life head-on without worry. According to Robbins, individuals only have five seconds to act on an impulse before they hesitate. In order to overrule one’s hesitation, he/she must commit to acting by the time he/she counts down 5-4-3-2-1. Robbins refers to these moments as “push moments.” These are the times when you have a thought about something such as approaching someone new or speaking up in a meeting.

After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mind-set. In this brilliant book, she describes how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mind-set and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mind-set.

Best DIY psycology audiobook
I have head a lot of performance and psychology books, I found this to be the most practical and useful.
The added bonus is one chapter is like 40 min long so you can take them in at your own pace. Listen to them slowly, digest them then move to the next chapter / session.

A Surprise Of A Good Listen...!
After The 5 Second Rule, I guess I didn't have really high expectations here. After all, 5 Second got pretty repetitive, and Mel didn't seem to feel bad that most of that book got to be same-old/same-old. So I suppose I expected to hear people who had the same problem at the root, or had differing problems, but they wound up being solved by the same tool. But I'm a person who thrives on self-development books, so I gave this one a try.
Boy! Every single person who Mel talks to here has a different sort of problem: Business problems, relationship problems, self-acceptance problems, and the list goes on. Some have had decent childhoods (though it was interesting that the majority of iconic issues occurred when people were in 4th grade/9-years old) with remarkably wounding episodes; some have had real horror shows in their backgrounds.
But, and this I liked, Robbins has a way of cutting to the quick with each of them: You are NOT your wound, so stop acting like it. And the people wound up seeing their own parts in their problems, their own failings. Some discovered they were manipulative, some wanted all the attention, one was just plain mean. But that was gotten to quickly and the tools to change were handed over immediately, so it's not like they were beaten over the head with their flaws. Mel is not a mean person; she's just honest and yikes is she quick on the draw.
I didn't give this five-stars because for a credit, I guess I kinda expected more clients. And as far as the Performance rating goes: What can I say? A couple of them speak like they're guest-stars, hoping to become famous. And a couple of them have laughs that about drove me up the wall (okay, so I'll shut up now about the petty things, shall I?).
The best part was that, at the end of each session, Robbins wraps it all up with takeaways that both you and I are privy to. We can all take something from each and every session (and don't get all offended if you hear profanity. There's a lot of pretty common language used).
So basically, this is a binge listen (and I'm not quoting the title or Audible will hold my review or remove it).
Think about yourself, think about your own issues, and find yourself in each and every one of these people who are struggling.
You ready to end a chapter and start a whole new one?

Very VERY over-hyped
I tried really hard to enjoy/learn something from from this, made it almost half way through even, but in the end a complete waste of time listening. most of the audiobook was spend on hyping up the author, each chapter started with the EXACT SAME INTRO "you are listening to Kick Ass with Mel Robbins..." along with recordings of people begging to be picked etc. Gets a bit tirsome after the first two chapters, I don't know why you need to remind someone what audiobook they are listening too every half hour! I thought this was a self-help book but turns out it was an overpriced, over-hyped podcast that had very little advice over than "you can do it".

Annoying people and BS emotional crap
I had high hopes for this book, other reviews are correct with the podcast feel. And yes after every chapter you get the same intro, which can get annoying. Some of the people Mel interviews are annoying with their dribble of playing the victim, crying and emotional BS etc...Don’t get me wrong Mel is good at her job. The 5 second rule was a good book. But this live coaching book is dreadful. Could of been done on her YouTube channel for free?
Mel only interviewed Americans which pissed me off!
where are all the other people that live outside the U.S that you keep hearing about during the intros???
When I got to the 4th client and the woman said she was from Cali with that annoying lift at the end of Cali fucking did it for me.
Refund to me is coming thanks audible.

Oh my Goood!
I did not like this book. Too much shouting , too much swearing - the f... word in every sentence, too much emotions and too much OMG!
Some stories are touching though and it s nice to know that people were helped. However, personally I did not get from the book anything useful.

Horrified!!
Too much swearing and it just feel like listening to an American version of Jeremy Kyle show. Absolutely horrendous, I can’t listen any more. She won’t tell you anything you don’t know already!!

Money grab
What a pity 5 second rule was good this is basically a money grab by Mel and Audible - should be a podcast but that would be free...
Ignore and wait for Mel to trot out the soundbites on her social media channels (plus they are free)

Just a glorified podcast...
An easy enough listen, and a well produced podcast, but if you are expecting another 5 second rule type "book", this is definitely not it. It will be a trade in for sure for me on audible I'm afraid...

This might suit American listeners. Not for me!
Oh dear, my first disappointing Audible book. Was really hoping for more.
It just feels like a series of podcasts, lazily glued together back to back.
I'm afraid I had to abandon it 3/4 of the way through the book. I really couldn't take any more of hearing the intro repeated yet again, then the out-takes before the main item.
Got 4 hours in and only had one "ok, that's interesting" moment.
This might suit an American listener with a very short attention span, bit I'm afraid it's not for me.

Disappointing editor’s choice
This was as unbearable as a reality show, an absolute ego trip of the author. Unashamedly she continuously inserts the allegedly real phone calls she received from people wanting an appointment with her. Her so called professional interviews with “patients “ are not only full of commonplaces but profusely seasoned with swearing.
Given that there’s a wide variety of hidden gems in the universe of literature, it was quite appalling to have this cheap shallow bestseller as the editor’ s choice.

Not a book
This isn’t a book it’s more of a conversation and not really a coaching session at all. Not really worth the disk space in my opinion.

Disappointing
Released on the back of the success of 5 seconds, this book does not stand on its own merits. Chock full of padding and self congratulations with not much new to say. Skip it.

I just could no related to this book. Loved her 5 4 3 2 1 book but this one was, to me, a waste of my time. Too bad I can't get a refund on this purchase.

Not a fan.
Obviously Mel is very successful and most of all confident; She is not a qualified practitioner which is quite obvious for those who are.

Just a therapy session with no qualification
There were alot of positive things but to me it'll wasn't coaching but a therapy session with someone whom is not qualified to assess. I didn't hear much "coaching" going on at all. Just diagnosing people. Meh maybe I'm just a negative person and misunderstood what I was in for. I thought it would be inspiring and eye opening.

NOPE
I got this as it was the free editor's pick for October 2019. I gave up after a few chapters. Life coaching is one thing, making clinical diagnoses of troubled people without the necessary qualifications is irresponsible and dangerous. It's a shame this isn't a physical book as I would like the satisfaction of throwing it in an actual bin.

What are her qualifications again?
Her lack of mental health knowledge is appalling. She is guiding her subjects and writes their story for them using quite unethical persuasion techniques to convince them she has nailed the issue! I think she could cause more harm than good long term. And persuading a young girl to share her self harm scars on social media, really unethical and totally against what the evidence suggests is safe!
