Publisher's Summary

USA Today and New York Times best-selling author Maya Banks continues her suspenseful and sizzling Slow Burn series with the fifth book featuring the men and women of Devereaux Security Services.

Raised in a strict religious cult since she was a young girl, Jenna has no connection to the outside world beyond vague flashes of memory that seem to be from another life. Memories she clings to when the cult leaders discover her extraordinary ability to heal - and punish her. Years held captive and forced to do the cult's bidding have turned Jenna into a meek, timid woman...or so they think. In truth she is merely biding her time, waiting for the perfect moment to escape.

When a terrified young woman tries to steal the SUV of Devereaux Security's toughest recruit, Isaac's anger quickly turns into a strange sort of protectiveness for the beautiful, bruised stranger. But when they are caught in a firestorm of bullets and Isaac is hit, he's sure the end is near, until Jenna touches him and closes his wounds. As he tries to bring Jenna to safety, she refuses to tell him what danger haunts her or how she healed him, but Isaac vows to do whatever it takes to gain her trust...and her heart. Because with just one touch, Isaac knows he wants Jenna to be his - forever.

Disappointing

I usually enjoy Maya Banks stories very much, but this audiobook was not my cup of tea. The story had a lot of potential, but the hero seemed to mostly rant about how he would never let anything happen to the heroine, while everything DID happen to the heroine. I found the storyline a bit disjointed and the phrasing somewhat repetitive throughout the book. The narrator did an okay job of what he had to work with, but it just didn't save the audiobook. Incidentally, I enjoyed the first four audiobooks in this series very much!

Really bad

The narrator sounded like the guy in Dragnet and the story line was really bad. First time I've not finished a book because it was the same thing over and over with slightly different words.

Just One Touch

I didn't enjoy this book as much as previous ones in this series. It's not that the story was bad, but rather how repetitive the prose was. The hero proclaimed his undying love over & over & over again, promising to keep the heroine safe time after time, using the same vows each time. It got annoying, to tell the truth. I was happy when the book ended.

And the narrator was a bit bland; monotone even. I won't be buying anymore in this series or by this narrator. I almost fell asleep listening, lol!

Disappointing...

After having read the other books in this series, perhaps my expectations were too high. The male protagonist appeared too needed with his constantly spouts of 'I love you' and 'I want to protect you' throughout the majority of the story. It was as if the author didn't have enough of a story so she decided to add these to flesh it out. A pity because the story, and the narrator, was just what kept my interest going.

not the best in the series

I love this series but I really struggled with this one. the female character just wasn't relatable to me and the instant obsession of the make character was more annoying that sweet.
Jeffrey kafer is the only redeeming quality in my opinion.
(for reference my absolute favorite in the series were Wade and Eliza and Beau and Ari.)

not the best Maya Banks

The story was good but it seems that the characters went on and on with long dialogue lines through the whole book. I wanted to say stop and take a breath for goodness sake.

Omg, NO!

Idk what happened with this book, but it should never have been published. I'm not sure who approved this, but they need to be fired. This series has always been a little over the top. All the testosterone usually makes for a good book, but between all the declarations and proclamations of undying love, the WHOLE premise -which I had been excited about- was lost. Her abilities took a backseat to the supposed 'romance' of the story. I just kept rolling my eyes and yelling at the narrator. 😂 And I am still trying to figure out exactly WHY the male 'agents' are supposed to be so good. The bad guys steal the women and the other women rescue them. It's a hot mess! 🙄 The only reasons I finished this one is because I need to get to Dane and Torrie's story and I hate to stop in the middle of a book if I can help it. I just hope it's more palatable than Issac's story.

NOT MY USUAL MAYA BANKS..

The book was not in the same level as previous books. Perhaps it was the story for me or the narrator, or even a combination of both but this story was too forced and oh my goodness soooo lame. The main characters had great back story's but from the moment they meet its like a collision of events take place in a matter of what 2 days..I don't know perhaps this series should've ended after 3 different physics, empaths, etc came to end up in the same family. Don't get me wrong each character from book one till now has been rich in character and relatable they're great, but how many times can you tell the same story.

Just One Touch, by Maya Banks

I enjoyed the story and plot. I am disappointed that Tory, Dane and Quinn's stories were not told. I would be very interested if Maya would at least tell Tory's story.

Great story line

Love that these women have special gifts and that the plots are not always predictable. This one wasn't one of my favourites but it was still very good and worth listening to. I can't wait for Tori to tell her story.. Hope that one is next.
