Publisher's summary

A divine quest to deliver justice. One year to accomplish his mission. After nineteen planets, there's something different about this one.

James Holden has reached the maximum level there is for a human. That's perfect, because he's the only one of his kind: a wandering warrior, without control of his destination, tossed between universes by gods who've failed to tell him why. James is the lone Judge on a new world in need of someone to balance the scales. He isn't afraid to do so with extreme prejudice. As the Chief Justice, he has to right the wrongs the innocent can't fix themselves.

As James quickly discovers, the roots of corruption run deep. Guilds choose to protect themselves rather than the people. Monsters roam the wilderness unchecked. Judgment is usually a decision between right and wrong, but nothing is ever that simple. This time, being the strongest human won't be enough to punish the guilty. James might have to recruit some new blood, even if he prefers to work alone.

On his twentieth world, he is going to win, no matter the cost. James will have to find a way to break past the limits of the system if he's going to have a chance at making a difference.

The book started good, but the ending was so so

The story was actually pretty good throughout most of it, but when it came to the end, it was so packed with clichés and predictable events that you almost could just as easily skip it. Clichés One of the villains fall down a hole and they assume he dies (only to most likely have him come back more powerful later). Clichés two main character needs more power to overcome his enemies so he absorbed it and becomes contaminated. (i’m sure we will be seeing more issues with this in upcoming books). But even with all of this, it still was a good book. I just hope in future books we get to see more creativity and less following the clichés crowd.

He is so judgemental.

This was a fast-paced story with a moralistic but stoic MC. He is warned but willing to serve if it will help him gain the answers to his questions. The story is slow with a clifhabfe ending, but it leavesvyiubwahting more.

The Magnificent Seven Minus 6

Michael Head is an excellent writer as he continued to demonstrate with Book 1 of this series. The MC is OP'd which we learn through introspection at various battle encounters that it is due to his involuntary inter-dimensional world travels to make right the injustices found where he's sent. Essentially, he's a one-man wrecking crew, an ultimate judge, jury and punisher for those who have caused evil to spread. His temperament is somewhere between that of a "Hanging Judge" and an intolerant tough-love vindicator of justice toward those who have callously used their position of power to harm ordinary folks. It's somewhat unclear if his jaded tendency is inherent in his personality or has been acquired through being forced to adjudicate previous worlds. The author does a good job to mix some humor in with the bloody battle encounters.

Neil Hellegers performance is, well, fantastic, of course.

Genuinely surprised

I wasn’t expecting much from this title, but I enjoyed it all the same. The narrator did a great job as well

A Great start to a series.

this one was quite enjoyable, I really like the OP main character. The main character was OP but still showed signs of weakness throughout the story. this was a very good book that I highly recommend.

Neil helliger's is one of the best narrators in the business and this was one of his better works.

Knows how to write a villain

I usually use audiobooks to sleep or do menial tasks around the house but this one I had to actually listen and pay attention. The villains pissed me off so much I would visibly redden with anger. My roommate asked if everything was okay cause I looked like I just learned my best friend murdered my family and spoke at the funeral and I had to tell them no I’m just listening to an unhinged psychopath beat on people for minor infractions of the law and get a way with it. I can’t wait till Gleason gets his shit rocked by the main character. Every time I heard, cross or the mayor in chapter one, or any of the major or minor villains get maimed or killed it made my stress bleed away and felt utter joy. Damn good author for villains and side characters. Hero was a bit of a ass even if I agree with his view points
