Publisher's Summary
Spring, 1909, and Lady Hardcastle, amateur sleuth and all-round eccentric, is enjoying a well-deserved rest. But a week after a trip to the cattle market, Spencer Caradine, a local farmer, turns up dead in the pub, face-down in his beef and mushroom pie. Once again, it is up to Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, to solve the case.
Armed with wit and whimsy, not to mention Florence’s mean right hook, the pair set out to discover what really happened and why. Was it poison or just ill luck?
As they delve further into their investigation, they encounter a theft where nothing is stolen, a séance with a troubled ghost and an ever-increasing number of Spencer’s family and friends who might just have motive for murder. One thing’s for sure: Lady Hardcastle has a mystery on her hands.
Revised edition: Previously published as The Spirit Is Willing, this edition of In the Market for Murder includes editorial revisions.

Clever intertwining of three fun mysteries
This is a terrific sequel to A Quiet Life in the Country. The book takes three mystery lines and intertwines them effectively. There is the death of a cruel man that might be from poisoning. A ghost accuses a member of the group doing a seance of murder. And the plaques and awards from a rugby club get stolen. I enjoyed the way the threads of the mysteries end up intertwined.
The book is very fun, with clever word play and banter between Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, who narrates the book. I loved this book and am waiting on tenterhooks for the third book to released on June 15!

Light cozy mystery
With my Kindle Unlimited account In the Market for Murder cost me only $1.99 plus tax. In my view it is worth what I paid for it, but not much more. The murder mystery is light and fun but is otherwise unimpressive. This Lady Hardcastle series is very highly rated and popular, so my rating is an outlier; for me this novel was barely okay while most listeners and readers found it delightful. So be it!

Fun book to listen to
This is the second book in this series that I have listened to. I purchased book one of the series as a kindle book with accompanying audio. I didn't like reading the book, but the audio version was wonderful. I think you need the English accents to make the story "live". The story line is a bit like Agatha Christie mysteries. The performance is very good, lots of different voices, not just someone reading the book. The story also has humor and a lightness that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I recommend this audible book to anyone who likes who done it type mysteries and also English settings at the turn of the century. Lady Hardcastle and Flo are exciting women for their time. Which makes it all the more fun.

This narrator deserves an Oscar
I love this series. I enjoy a good English mystery, but this series is LOL funny! The narrator does a wide array of voices, each with its distinctive sound and character. This takes the story up a level--a really good story to a hysterically funny story with two starring female leads. She truly deserves a Grammy for her efforts. This book is more than credit worthy.....I actually BOUGHT the second book in the series because I couldn't wait for my next credit to come up. Plenty of murder suspects in English countryside
Once again Lady Hardcastle and her lady's maid tackle a murder investigation in the country. Plot is thick with suspects and paranormal activity, and keeps the reader busy trying to guess who and why someone would want a villager or two dead. A little more complicated plot than the previous adventure, but worth the read.

What made the experience of listening to In the Market for Murder the most enjoyable?

What was one of the most memorable moments of In the Market for Murder?
I really liked the interaction between Lady Hardcastle and Flo.
What about Elizabeth Knowelden’s performance did you like?
She read with a normal voice! Some narrators seem to have strange way of ending sentences on an uplift like a question. Elizabeth reads as if she is talking to you which is much better.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Loved it. Murder and intrigue. Lovely story. The banter and joviality between Lady Hardcastle and Florence Armstrong - her lady's maid - or tiny servant, as Lady Hardcastle affectionately calls her, is fantastic. Witty and good hearted fun. Another great read in the saga
Really enjoyed this book. Story kept my attention and built on the characters from book 1 where the ladies move to the country.
Some of the characters are not quite believable but our heroines work their way through several different mysteries and , like Miss Marple before them, solve the cases.
Enjoy the narration, but occasionally I feel that a word or two is on the next line and is a bit stilted in flow. I let Elizabeth off though as I generally like her narration and the different characters.
This book will suit those who enjoy following the same characters through a range of different stories - in the vein of Mallory Towers which I read many years ago.

This another good yarn by TE Kinsey about the exploits of Lady Hardcastle and her ladies maid. There are several threads to the tale that are only resolved at the very end. Timeless period detection
Another good read for a period piece of detective work. The characters are delightful and one is taken back to a green and pleasant land if only in memory and wistful desire. Good storyline.

murder mystery brings merriment and mischief
enjoy a good ol murder mystery but with added hilarity and rambunctious characters you'll feel like Lady Hardcastle and Flo are part of the family

Good mystery
Quite a good period mystery, but I felt the narrator’s voice was too affected for the character she was portraying as narrator.

Slow plot.
I like the main characters and their rapport, but the plot was a bit far fetched and involved and her closing summary was way too long.

Totally impressed.
I tend to stick to a few authors and reread their books time and again, and I e en have a couple of short stories that I keep near when I want something light and quick, but having found T E Kinsey, I have to say that yes, I am impressed. Not exactly a worldwide super novel, but these mystery stories are told well, the characters have life and I am enjoying some new reads.

Story
Late October 1909, and the season of ghouls and things that go bump in the night has descended on the village of Littleton Cotterell. Lady Hardcastle and her trusted lady’s maid, Florence, find themselves hosting a colorful cast of actors whose spooky moving picture, The Witch’s Downfall, is being shown to mark Halloween. But things take a macabre turn when the first night’s screening ends with a mysterious murder, and the second night with another. One by one the actors turn up dead in ways that eerily echo their film.

Story
January 1910. A journalist has been killed in a suspicious blaze. Everything points to a group of suffragettes, but the apparent culprit insists she is innocent. When Lady Hardcastle receives a letter from a suffragette requesting her urgent help, the retired spy turned sleuth knows only she stands between an accused young woman and the gallows. Evidence at the scene makes Lizzie Worrel’s innocence difficult to believe, and with the police treating it as an open-and-shut case of arson, Lady Hardcastle faces a barrage of resistance as she tries to dig out the truth.
