Publisher's summary

Fall. Autumn. It doesn't matter what you call it, I hate it. I despise pumpkins, Halloween, and the overwhelming sense of dread as the cold and damp move in. But when my new chauffeur drives up in a hearse, Halloween carols blaring, I realize there will be no escape from the holiday.

Penny

Fall is the best time of the year! I love pumpkin spice everything, cozy scarves, and nostalgic movies. But most of all, I love Halloween. My quaint home town of Harrogate is the perfect place to celebrate the holiday. We're the original Halloween town.

I should be more excited, except that I'm going back to Harrogate after failing to make it as a journalist in Manhattan. Instead of living out my dreams, I'm living in a dilapidated Victorian house with creepy identical twins, a black cat named Salem, and a snobby ghost. I also have a new temp job with a sexy but grouchy billionaire who is determined to make me quit.

My mother wants me to write a juicy tell-all about Garrett and his huge family. Yep, I'm going to trick the cold-blooded billionaire. I know I need to stick with the plan and weasel enough information out of my boss to write a killer article for a big payday.

this book needs to be shorter

I was right to worry about the 11 hr duration. This would have been 5 stars at 4 hours or 4 stars at 6 hours.

ugh 5 hours down and it feels like the story just stopped and parked

Sometimes what you need isn't what you think it is

I kind of loved this story. I did a lot of laughing and saying oh no. It was entertaining and enjoyable although there were many times that I was yelling at Penny (mostly) and Garrett to just communicate with each other. The characters were interesting and likable for the most part. There were a lot of supporting characters that were absolutely wonderful. Lilith and Morticia were great friends to Penny by being supportive but also by giving her a kick when she needed it. Garrett was amazing. He was so much more patient than I could ever imagine being. Garrett was so sweet and tender-hearted on the inside but all grumpy and growly on the outside. Penny was sweet but she also acted or reacted impulsively. Some of the things that she did to Garrett made me want to smack her. I loved how the story ended though. I recommend reading this book.

Listening to this book is a treat. The narrators both did a wonderful job bringing the story to life. It was like being part of the story. I also recommend listening to this book.

Worst language use ever

Did not enjoy the filthy language in this audiobook. Because I didn't I canceled the other 3 I had purchased. The story is funny & charming but to much #$%^, @$%^, bad language for my taste.

It's long but worth it!

This was one of the longest books I have ever listened to, but the story is totally worth it. If you love Halloween and Pumpkin Spice and Romance this is one for you! Penny is quirky and adorable, a kindred spirit in the love of all things baked and holiday related. Garrett is tough but endearing as you get to know him. Plus the brothers add a major layer of humor and understanding.

All around, this is a wonderful story and the narrators did a wonderful job. Alexander Cendese has an amazing voice and does wonderful impressions. Samantha Summers also has a lovely voice and does great. I could see in my mind what all the characters looked like and their demeanor based on the narration alone.

There are tons of dirty bits, but they do not detract from the story at all. They totally enhance it. Give it a try and you'll understand this is an excellent book!

The male reader!!!Yikes

The only reason I struggled with this book is the male readers voice. It did not fit the character at all. His voice was something like an angry Brooklyn mob guy. Maybe like the jerk in a movie that would eventually get caught or get killed. I hate to complain about him and I don’t like to be so judgy, but this is more of a warning for people considering this book. The readers/character alternate chapter. I downloaded this book for a car ride or I never would’ve gotten past the second chapter where I first heard his voice. Again, in my opinion it did not fit the character at all. He could read an angry private eye character great. Or maybe a book about an actual mob, he just did not fit this book. I liked the idea of a male reading for the male, but I so wish it was just the female reading the whole book.

Not funny

I could not finish this book. The characters are vapid. I understand this is a series, and that this is not the first book, but It really made no difference because none of the characters were realistic or worth caring about. The men behave like boys and yet the reader is to believe they run successful companies. The main female character was competent when planning parties but fell apart when dealing with her mother.
Don’t bother with this book .
