Publisher's summary

Molly Murphy's beau Captain Daniel Sullivan may be out of jail on bail, but he's still a ways from clearing his name, and his foul mood has Molly in search of a little breathing room when providence steps in in the form of a proposition from New York City's renowned theatrical impresario Tommy Burke.

America has been very good to Tommy, and now that he's getting on in years, he'd like to pass some of that good fortune on to his family back in Ireland. That's, of course, if Molly can find the long-lost baby sister his family left in the care of a parish priest when they fled the famine and avoid the warrant out for her arrest that forced Molly to flee herself. Tempted by the prospect of going home for the first time in years and putting her fledging detective agency on firm financial ground, Molly throws caution to the wind and climbs aboard the White Start Liner Majestic with hopes of sneaking on and off the isle without raising a peep.

But even before Molly lands on the other side of the Atlantic, Broadway's leading actress, Oona Sheehan, has gone missing from the ship, and her maid is found dead in her cabin.

Full of rich historic detail and enchanting turn-of-the-century personalities, Molly's return home, In Dublin's Fair City, is the sixth thrilling installment in Rhys Bowen's award-winning Molly Murphy series.

love the series

I just love the cleanness of the series, no bad language, no explicit sex, etc. The narrator puts enough excitement to keep it interesting.

I Surrender!!! Best yet.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Got choked up near the end.

Any additional comments?

Okay, I'm not a fan of so-called "cozy" mysteries. My tastes run to darker writers in the Celtic Noir vein: Stuart MacBride, Adrian McKinty, Stuart Neville, Tana French, etc. I gifted my sister a McKinty novel, she gifted me the first Molly novel. I thought I wouldn't like it, and the reading of male voices annoyed the heck outta me so I kept thinking I'd read one and say thanks and stop. or two and stop. Or maybe three or four. But the central character is so bleeping engaging (and well read) I'd even say inspiring that I can't stop reading these. And now that she's gotten into the Irish fight for self-rule . . . This is her best yet. Sooooo hooked, despite the "light reading-ness" of the books, I do find something more substantial lurking in the writing, in the main character's bravery, her choice of friends, her open mind . . . A lot to admire and aspire to!!! So I surrender. I'm officially a Molly Murphy fan.

Such a Fun Series!

I love this series! The more episodes I read, the more I want to read; I am glad there are many more instalments ahead.

This one had me rolling my eyes on multiple occasions because it was a little heavy on the lucky coincidences, but so what – I still enjoyed it.

On to book 7!

Entertaining historical mystery series

'In Dublin's Fair City' Molly return to Ireland for the first time in years to work on a case. Exciting narrative and details, enjoyed the look of Ireland's countryside and Dublin's neighborhoods of the early 1900s. Loved the change of scenery and the break from Captain Daniel Sullivan. Good addition to a very good series.

Wonderful twists

This may be the my favorite Rhys Bowen book to date. The new characters, multiple locations away from NY, twists and turns all while encompassing a bit history made it so I could not stop listening.

A fateful voyage

Molly is offered a job that will take her back to Ireland and hopefully allow her to see her family. She decides to take the chance. The voyage is fraught with trouble and a young maid is murdered in Molly's bed. Things get even dicier after she lands in Ireland. Molly's naive nature is noted when she is recruited to aid the rebels who conspire against the English. Ireland's long standing fight for home rule is at the center of this mystery.

Tremendous !

Each chapter could begin with “and now the plot thickens” as Molly goes from one questionable event to another worse one! I also love the narrators voice. Wonderful to listen to at bedtime, always leaving you wanting more. Utterly wonderful.

LISTEN to the narrator before you buy.

Narrator’s whiney, high pitched voice ruins the story. Story is in the formula for this series. Not much to like.

Quite Brilliant

Rhys Bowen's Mollly Murphy series never lacks for excitement. "in Dublin's Fair City" Molly's innocuous return to Ireland on behalf of a client takes unusual twists and turns. Ms. Bowen captures the mood, the glamour and the politics of the time, while building another great story.

Disappointing Narration

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Disappointing fact finding & research regarding Irish places

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Narratation would be improved if proper pronunciation was used. It is not difficult to find out how to pronounce Irish names & French placenames. Let the story down.

Would you be willing to try another one of Nicola Barber’s performances?

Possibly not in this series.

Was In Dublin's Fair City worth the listening time?

Overall, not too bad.

Any additional comments?

Some accents are a distraction

Another great one, just one let down

The only thing that lets this book down is the fact that the narrator did no research on the pronunciation of Irish names. She didn’t get one right. Quite frustrating really when there’s a simple fix.
But other than that another great Molly Murphy mystery. I’m totally hooked on the series.

In Dublin's Fair City

This one seems to be darker than previous one's Only one murder to solve bug a very exciting journey. Read brilliantly by Nicola Barber.

Have to Question the Research

What West Irish man woman or child did NOT know Gàidhlig especially during this period?
If you use an Irish woman in a story, that was from a ravished west Ireland village, know she spoke fluently her native tongue...Unless she was struck dumb by lightening! Tramore is said Trá Mhór...not said Tram-more. It’s like listening to Americans say Gal-a-way when telling me they just visited Tig Choili and heard the wonderful old music with a pint of Guinness! It’s cringeworthy!
