Publisher's Summary

From YouTube star and Facebook Video sensation Laura Clery comes a collection of comedic essays in the vein of We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby and You’ll Grow Out of It by Jessi Klein.

Laura Clery makes a living by sharing inappropriate comedy sketches with millions of strangers on the internet. She writes songs about her anatomy, talks trash about her one-eyed rescue pug, and sexually harasses her husband, Stephen. And it pays the bills!

Now, in her first-ever audiobook, Laura recounts how she went from being a dangerously impulsive, broke, unemployable, suicidal, cocaine-addicted narcissist, crippled by fear and hopping from one toxic romance to the next...to a more-happy-than-not, somewhat rational, meditating, vegan yogi with good credit, a great marriage, a fantastic career, and four unfortunate-looking rescue animals. Still, above all, Laura remains an amazingly talented, adorable, and vulnerable self-described...Idiot.

With her signature brand of offbeat, no-holds-barred humor, Idiot introduces you to a wildly original - and undeniably relatable - new voice.

So bad

I’m pretty sure I’m the only non-bot to review this book. I’m so confused how it has five stars.

Absolutely worth every penny, especially for HHS fans!

Laura is such a hilarious and beautiful soul, and beyond inspirational! I have been a huge fan of hers beginning with “Help Helen Smash” but didn’t know her backstory...what a roller coaster of challenges she has endured and overcome!!! Her story about her relationship with her family, trauma from abusive boyfriends, and long road of addiction to her transformed sobriety is so well written, and binge worthy. I listened straight through! Being able to listen to Laura tell her own story was priceless, I am so glad she chose to narrate it. Laura is just so witty and being able to hear her inflections, funny accents, comedic timing, as well as her occasional guest narrator was so special. If you are already a fan, there’s no way that you will not love Laura’s book! If you aren’t a fan, go watch all of Laura’s amazing videos and then enjoy this truly well written and beautifully narrated audiobook.

Couldn’t stop listening

I didn’t know what to expect when I decide to get this book. I would find myself taking the long route home every time so I could listen longer. I wish the book was longer. I loved listening to Laura read it to me. I also love how she shared her life’s journey with us. Congratulations, Laura, for your happiness!!!!

I'm the "Idiot" for buying this!

SO, SO boring! If you want to listen to the tale of a self-entitled brat from suburbia, who had horrible parents and was basically rewarded in life for being an "Idiot" She talks in a promo about how "Brave and scared" she is if sharing her life, but then, makes excuses and jokes for her behaviors during the entire book. Even saying how "Fun," Mushrooms are...great Mom there....Honestly, I should've based my choice on her "sitcom" etc....I don't like it. I don't think you're "a piece of shit", I just do NOT enjoy your writing.

Laura’s story is a beautiful story of how anyone is capable of change. It is a beautiful story of facing fears and addiction and coming out on the other side. So inspiring.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!

I am so happy that I decided to get Laura’s autobiography ‘Idiot’ as an Audio Book as actually LISTENING to her story, it made it feel like she was in the room with me. I felt very privileged to listen to her brutal honesty. To hear of her amazing journey through the ranks of childhood to the successful life she has now. I now understand the ‘how and the why’s’ of alcoholism and drug addictions. OMG! I understand also how easy it would be to go back to that life. Laura and Stephen continue to help each other. What a beautiful love story. I am so glad I’ve listened to this book. It’s been INSIGHTFUL, at times quite SAD, of listening to her BRUTAL TRUTHS in her own life but also the many people who have been in her life, it tells of a love story and showing us it can be a constant battle at times too. All in all I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Refreshing and educational

I am fortunate to not have addiction surrounding me or my close network, but after listening to Laura’s book, through the LOL moments and intriguing storytelling, I feel like I am educated and prepared to show compassion and empathy, and know how to reach out. Love your narrating, best voice to listen to and stay in the story. Thanks Laura

Loved it

Absolutely loved this! Laura was an idiot! She knows this, we've all been idiots to some degree, not necessarily to this degree lol I love that she owns her stupidity and has learnt from it. She is open about it and tries to help others by opening up her life. She acknowledges that not everyone is as lucky as she but I feel that this is still an accomplishment as SHE got sober and continues to be! I love this book!

Review

Good to hear that Laura and Steven faced all odds and came out of it. Inspiring for young people who don't fit in at school due to their giftedness and to follow their dreams and find your tribe.

Unflinchingly Honest

Laura's brutal honesty with witty and amusing quips was both heart wrenching and relatable. Her frankness on the realness of how lost you can get without meaning to and the ugly realities of addiction while maintaining her humorous spirit made for a great listen! Especially as it was read by her. I found her journey amusing, inspiring and incredible. Even though it is about her life and biographical in nature it doesn't read like that. It's just this amazing storytelling and I would definitely recommend. 😊
