Publisher's summary

In the latest in Rhys Bowen's award-winning historical series, Molly Murphy is supposed to give up sleuthing now that she’s married, but the murder of an alderman puts her on the trail of a killer.

Molly Murphy, now Molly Sullivan, and her husband Daniel, a captain in the New York Police department, have been invited to spend their honeymoon on the Newport, RI, estate of Alderman Brian Hannan in the spring of 1904. Molly doesn’t entirely trust the offer. Hannan - an ambitious man - has his eye on a senate seat and intentions of taking Tammany Hall to get it.

When Hannan is found dead at the base of the cliffs that overlook the Atlantic, Molly’s suspicions are quickly justified, and as much as she wants to keep her promise to Daniel that she won’t do any more sleuthing now, there isn’t much she can do once the chase is on. Rhys Bowen’s brilliant wit and charm are on full display in Hush Now, Don’t You Cry, another outstanding addition to her Agatha and Anthony award-winning historical series.

I've read enough to predict the phrases Bowen will use

Overall, I enjoy the series, but this one had repetitive phrasing. In one conversation they repeated the same questions. In one scene Molly twice noted that everyone looked at her like they had forgotten she was there. I realize this is poor editing as much as writing errors.
I don't dislike Daniel as much as some reviewers because he seems to be coming around to accepting Molly for who she is.

Wonderful story

As always a great listening experience. There were so many characters and so many twists and turns it was impossible to determine who the villain was until the end. Love Molly Murphy. Eleanor

Tired of Daniel’s attitude

This was by far the best of the series so far.

Daniel was in it minimally and was not able to be so bossy and condescending to Molly.

The story was terrific with all the weaves of characters.

Favorite so far

All of these stories have been great. This however is my favorite. Molly more mature and the story didn't lag.

Honeymoon from hell!

Exploring Newport in the 1900s alongside Molly Murphy was a delightful experience. The plot was engaging, but it pleasantly defied predictability in its conclusion. Certain book sections captivated me, making it nearly impossible to set aside. The depiction of how the honeymoon unfolded served as a stark reminder that it isn't always a smooth start to a marriage.

I would advise readers of the Catholic faith to approach this book with an open mind, as it may contain elements that challenge one's beliefs.

Totally Molly

This was one of my favorite Molly Murphy stories. It was nice that it was all Molly and she showed her true value as a detective!! Once again Rhys Bowen did her magic in making us wait to the end to knowing who the murderer was. And Nicola had her work cut out for her with more characters, especially male characters, than normal. But as always she did an amazing job!!!

best ever!

Best story that I've heard yet in the series. just keeps getting better. It has at least two very moving scenes in which life and death hangs in the balance. I enjoy any series with a historical perspective.
