Deeply original

Vampirism as allegory and liberation, the lust for blood as a symbol of all the other desires Women were asked to suppress.
The setting is dark and (literally) gothic, as is fitting .
I deeply enjoyed this book.

Gothic and Emotional

I had a really rough week after this book helped me break through a wall of self loathing. I hated it because my base was unsettled but I love the writer and this book for how seen and not alone it made me feel.

Gripping, well-researched, and unforgettable

This story kept me hooked from start to finish. The writing is beautiful, and the characters are incredibly compelling, but the real horror lies in how accurately it reflects what women went through at the time. The amount of research that went into capturing the era is impressive and eye-opening. A haunting and powerful read that stays with you.

Sapphic and sensational

Now THAT'S how you write a girl boss. Beautiful in pacing, tone, detail, atmosphere, everything. Brava. 🥀

Excellent Retelling

The narration is fantastic, and I honestly think this is the best version of the story of Carmilla out there.
