Publisher's summary

Do you want to write a book? It’s not an easy question. Many of us would love to jot down our fondest stories and our tallest tales to preserve forever in written form. Whether you’re a born storyteller or need a little assistance from spellcheck and the thesaurus, Lauren Bingham is here to help you decide whether the time is “write” to make your author’s dreams a reality. How to Write a Book: A Book for Anyone Who Has Never Written a Book (But Wants To) is Lauren’s most personal work, providing her own insight into what makes writers tick and how to bring the passion out on paper.

Writing a book may come easily to you, or it may be the most painful endeavor of your life. Unfortunately, there’s no way to know unless you give it a try. Thankfully, Lauren is here with a very candid look into the writing process.

From determining why you should even bother writing a book in the first place to determining whether you have what it takes to complete your first volume, Lauren helps you evaluate what your personal writing process will look like. Next, she will guide you through the pre-work of formulating your book and share practical - if not brutally honest - advice for remaining calm and focused throughout the writing process. You’ll learn about the emotional toll editing can take on you, and how a good sense of humor and an open mind can help you learn plenty about yourself while setting your first book up for success.

Whether you aspire to become a bestseller or just want to commemorate a few thoughts before it’s too late, How to Write a Book: A Book for Anyone Who Has Never Written a Book (But Wants To) is the book for anyone who is a determined and dedicated fledgling writer, procrastinator, excuse-maker, or anyone who is a little of each. From navigating the myriad roadblocks that can occur when making dreams reality to getting your words to the masses, Lauren Bingham gives an informal yet essential look at the writing process.

Frustration tamer

I am beyond frustrated writing my book and I didn’t know if I should just give up or pursue it. Thanks to this author I know I am meant to write and need to keep going. The words will come to me. I just need to be patient. The narrator does this book justice. Highly Recommended.

Best narrator

I needed this book and ended up really liking the narrator. I’ve never heard her stuff before but her lightheartedness when talking about struggles made me believe every word this author has written. All around good book not disappointed in my purchase!

Entertaining

I was recommended this book by a professor and was expecting a boring how-to guide for writing books. I was pleasantly surprised by the entertainment of both the information and the narrator. Lynnda is a very talented voice actor and I am glad she narrated this book, I was able to focus and get the most of Lauren's words.

Genius

Genius that's what Lauren is GENIUS! I have forgotten so many important plot pieces or stopped writing altogether because I am just not organized. I didn't like writing notes because I thought that meant I would have to plot everything if I wrote things down. You don't! You can journal as she mentions and keep track of what needs to be added because it was skipped.

driving a car

The driving analogy really helped me find my comfort zone. This author and narrator are a dynamic duo. The author's words made me believe I could write and the narrator's soft comforting voice pushed me into a comforting place and “start the car.”
8th review: Lynnda Nelson is one of my favorite narrators. I came here from her narration of a CBT book and noticed she narrated this one while writing a book which is also beneficial to me as an English major who is an aspiring author.

take breaks

This is something I didn't realize and experienced burnout which I thought was writer's block. This author is so validating. I felt heard and appreciated just by listening to her agreeing to the havoc that your body goes through writing a book. It is mentally and physically exhausting but her reassurance got me to finish my debut novel.

author notes

Learning how this author does things such as timelines and goals really helped me understand that my processes will eventually work. I just needed the reminder that I am human and not the only author who struggles with getting words down on paper. Thank you Lauren Bingham for writing this book!

Speechless

I’ve released 3 books and feel at a loss with writers block. I was hoping I would get the bug to write and I did. I also was reminded that not every book will get on the best sellers list but a story is better written than unwritten.
