Rescued by ruin, American heiress Daisy Vanreid is desperate to avoid marriage to the aging aristocrat her abusive father chose for her. She'll do anything, even entrap the notorious Duke of Trent into marriage, to escape her fate. Losing her heart to her handsome husband after the wedding isn't part of the plan. Nothing is as it seems.

An elite spy, Sebastian, the Duke of Trent, is on a mission to unravel bomb plots in England's cities. Forced to wed Daisy as part of his cover, he has no intention of falling in love with a woman suspected of treason. But he's drawn to the feisty beauty he married, and he can't deny the way she makes him feel, even though he knows she could be the enemy he seeks.

Duty versus love

As danger strikes, Sebastian must choose between Daisy and his loyalty to the Crown. And when Daisy discovers the truth at last, will she ever forgive him?

Contains mature themes.

I enjoyed the plot, but thought everyone’s surety that the heroine was a plotter a little silly. I was disappointed in the hero, Sebastian, who let conjecture completely undo his faith in Daisy. There is a lot of thinking/introspection and it does tend to be very repetitive in that way. It is especially annoying near the end of the book; I sent the book at 2.5 speed just to get through all Sebastian’s hateful introspections. It could have been maybe a 1-minute moment that was extended to perhaps 15 minutes or longer. It felt like FOREVER and not in a good way; if only the editor had actually edited that part. Unfortunately, you can’t skim read like you can with an actual book. It felt gross that Sebastian would have sex with Daisy as he was thinking all these vile things about her; I know it’s meant to be sexy, but it made my skin crawl. And I lost respect for her for just giving in even though he offers her no explanation for his months-long silence and absence and only spits vitriol at her.
The more I have to listen to the narrator, the more annoying her lisp and lack of different voices becomes. I don’t know why they wouldn’t move on to a narrator without a lisp. And the narrator is slow speaking enough that even at 2.0 speed, it sounds normal.

Entertaining but the narration

An interesting plot butvery limited development of it an over abundance of repetitive sex talk and scenes. the narrator tried to usevoices but bot truly believable and a bit monotonous in cadence.

Iteresting if limited story.

I give the story a solid 3.5. I enjoyed most of it but parts dragged out too much. Way to much introspection and assumptions from Sebastian and Daisy characters. Sebastian wasn’t a rake at all. I think the sex scenes are well done but a bit long. I don’t recommend using a credit for this book but I would purchase the audio on sale.

Titles Doesn’t Fit the Story

The characters are so fun the plot twists, exciting to see develop in the narrator. Does a great job bringing the characters to life.

This series is so much fun

Sorry, you can't narrator three stories with the same voice for each new character! I don't know which story I am listen to, they all sound the same because the narrator has the same tone for each male character and each American female character.

Narrator sucks
