Publisher's summary

They came from the Deep...and with the first major content patch for Sosaku Online.

Arriving in a tide of blood and horror, a forgotten cult from the depths of the ocean has laid waste to the once glorious city of Sehkem and scattered its people throughout the empire.

The global storyline is in full swing, and James is all over it. Tasked with a critical mission by the god of death, Kheph and Kjara must make their way back to Sehkem, find their way past the invading army, and retrieve an ancient artifact from the depths of an ancient tomb.

Sounds easy, right? Yeah...not so much.

This was amazing

I’m loving this series so much. Starting book 3 right now. It is so hard to get this combination between real life, game life and romantic interest right and this is the first series I have come across to do it since Ascend Online. Keep up the great work.

Great Story

This story keeps getting better as is continues. J. Arthur Klein continues to impress me with the depth and detail of this series. The challenges faced in this story are very similar to those faced by online gamers so the series is very relatable. This series thus far has been an absolute joy to listen to.

The narration by Daniel Wisniewski has been phenomenal. Daniel has an amazing ability to bring the characters and story to life that allows to the listener to feel as if they are living the story in first person.

Another fun adventure with our MC!

J. Arthur Klein writes a great sequel to the Sosaku Online series. Another fun adventure with our MC and supporting characters. The story continues to develop and it just gets better! I look forward to book. Audio Version: Daniel Wisniewski does a great job with the narration, the MC, and all of the characters.

great sequel

lovely sequel of a pretty fresh litrpg.
Egyptian stories aren't much explored even in a litrpg setting

What a great book 2!

So we now know that the MC is a hero both inside and outside of the game.
The partner's relationship is, of course, growing.
One of the best things I love about this series is that it is proper GameLit/LitRPG. Both the real world and game world play significant roles in this series.
I don't want to give too much away here because this book, and series, is awesome and you need to experience it yourself.
If you like GameLit and LitRPG you're going to love this series.
Not a harem series.

A new favorite!

This series is a new favorite of mine. First, it's got Daniel Wisniewski narrating. Next, we have an excellently written story. The MC is not OP, not a super out-of-the box tactician, not some trained martial artist, not loved by the masses and not politically savvy. In real life he runs a video game blog to help his family with the bills. He is stuck in the game because he stepped in front of a bullet and now his body is being repaired. This is mostly about his adventures in a new gaming world while he is being fixed.

Every adventure is new. All the dungeons are first run dangerous. The crazy thing is that this is book 2 and I'm reviewing it like it's a book 1. This is an adventure that anyone can enjoy, and I highly recommend it.

Awesome Sequel

I really have enjoyed this lovely little story thus far. It appears to me to be a trilogy. When it comes to a sequel, I am personally looking for everything that made the last book worth it and then some. In my opinion that is this book. Like the first book there is a bit of a surprise at the ending of this one. Somewhere in the middle we get a scene with our main character’s father who is a naval officer which confused me a little bit as their financial situation if memory serves are not well which is why he's giving his mom money. I will definitely have to go back and listen to book one again. Some authors will dedicate a little section at the front of a sequel to kind of refresh the memory. Sometimes they go too in depth, but it is something that I personally appreciate and would like to see from this author going forward. The narrator delivered another fantastic performance. I have been listening to his work for years and have never seen him do anything less. Sometimes I can't wait for so next audio release, and will read the e-book, but in this case and with the release so close I will have a modicum of patience. Book 3, “The Forbidden Barrows” is out now in eBook form with an audiobook release set for 1-5-23. I have put my book one review below for anyone new to the story and thinking of buying in. Lastly, I'll just say well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the Audible listeners.

Book 1 Review

Right up front before you read any further just know that I recommend this book to anybody thinking about giving it a shot. A little context for my review. I tend to take it easy on the first and last book of any series as not every series makes it to “The End” and the first of anything can be a shaky endeavor. I also try to make clear the distinction between the quality of the writing/performance of the author/narrator and my personal tastes should they differ. The first two chapters, which counts for approximately an hour of the story, is almost nothing but stats. You do get a quick idea of the MCs situation. The fact that he's a grown man living with his mother and sister who is still in school. Their financial situation is not good and that's why he is helping to provide for them. There is a new game coming out with a significant technological advantage in immersion and the form of these pods. You can spend an extended amount of time in the pods and unlike what happens in most stories of this nature he does not get stuck in the pods. Around chapter eight is when he comes out for the first time. The story that takes place outside of the pods is fairly minimalistic. There is a surprise event towards the end of the book that shakes things up enough that for me made me want to read book too. With that said this is a solid entry for the first book in a series. You could in my opinion read the first book and not touch another and still be perfectly satisfied. For myself I always like it when there's an element of romance in any story I'm reading and I'm happy to see that there was that here. The narrator did a fantastic job and lastly, I'll just say Well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing this book to us the audiobook listeners.
