Angel vs. Harpy = Fun

5 stars - The Darkest Angel by Gena Showalter is fun and right up there with the rest of the series, so for all those who enjoy the series it is a great addition. Max Bellmore was good, but he did seem to have a little more whine in his female's voice this time. But with Bianka's antics I hardly notice, since I was having a good time with the story. 4 hrs 13 mins.

3 stars - Love Me to Death by Maggie Shayne was okay for a short story. I have read a few of Maggie Shayne books and to me the stories are mostly average reading. Ashford MacNab had a slow voice and it made my mind wonder sometimes, I was not overly impressed with her reading. 2 hrs 56 mins

2 stars - Lady of the Nile by Susan Krinard this book was a mess. It had a confusing storyline, I felt like the characters should be in a mental asylum, even though I know this is a paranormal story based in regency times. It was such a short story, I finished it but I was glad when it was over. 2 hrs 41 mins

Good 3 story book

I love Gena Showalter, and Lysander and Bianka's story was great. Lysander is totally hot and Bianka is naughty. I could not stop listening. Maggie Shayne's story was good as well, and this is the first book of hers that I have read. Susan Krinard's story was my least favorite.

Oh Gena You Are My Hero

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Hell yes!

Any additional comments?

Ok so I haven't been super impressed with Showalter's shorts but this one rocked. Not only is B my new favorite girl but there was loin clothes, oil, and hot guys wresteling! Why hasn't that been in more books? There is a God and he is a good one. Read this and read it now.

Can only recommend Gena's story

This book contains 3 short stories. The first is written by Gena Showalter and is part of her Lords of the Underworld series. It's an off-shoot, really because neither of the main characters one of the Lords. This story involved one of the Harpy sisters and an angel. It also provides information on the female angel that will be featured in another Lords story later in the series.

Unfortunately the other two stories were not very good at all. I'm not familiar with either Author, and I'm not sure if these were part of a series. Neither of them made me eager to seek out any additional stories along the same lines, nor to check into books by the same author.

Only if you are really bored....

The first story was okay.... not great but somewhat entertaining but the second story was so bad and corny I laughed and refused to listen to the third. Sounded like a story someone wrote when they were in grade school. I listened as part of the romance package so I didn’t waste a credit. I would never waste a credit or money on this. Audible usually has high standards or I thought they did. I blame the editor. They should have demanded a rewrite. Or....was this self published?

Love this series! Have listened multiple times.

Because of this series, Gena Showalter is a must read for me. Damaged alpha males, romantic story lines, humor and lots of action. I am a happy listener.

For Me This Was Unlistenable

Would you try another book from the authors and/or the narrators?

I have read, or listened to, Maggie Shayne's books before, but not the other authors. The stories are all formulaic Romance/Paranormal and maybe I haven't read enough lately, except the excellent Jayne Castle, to be able to stomach them. I found myself rolling my eyes way too much. So it's doubtful that I'd listen to or read anything else by these authors. Wanting to get my money's worth, I read a third to half of each book before stopping completely.

Has Heart of Darkness turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I'll still continue to read other paranormal books by Jayne Castle, and the upcoming trilogy by Nora Roberts, and also Molly Harper, etc.

Did the narrators do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, the narrators helped me understand who was speaking, but that didn't help with my overall negative experience

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment was my main reaction. I thought this would be a fun listen and didn't expect this book to be so old fashioned. The first book was especially cringe worthy.

I knew Better than to get short stories

What would have made Heart of Darkness better?

If they had been three separate books of about 8 hours each. Then i would have avoided them all

What could the authors have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

take time to develop plot. Read Fifty Shades to see how this genre should be presented
