Publisher's summary

Tricks and treats keep the Halloween spirit alive in coastal Maine. But this year the haunted house theme is getting carried a little too far....

HAUNTED HOUSE MURDER by LESLIE MEIER

Newcomers to Tinker's Cove, Ty and Heather Moon have moved into a dilapidated house reputed to be a haven for ghosts. Now strange noises and flickering lights erupt from the house at all hours and neighborly relations are on edge. And when a local boy goes missing near the house, it's up to Lucy Stone to unravel the mystery of the eccentric couple and their increasingly frightful behavior.

DEATH BY HAUNTED HOUSE by LEE HOLLIS

For the past two years, the house next door to Hayley Powell has sat abandoned after the owner died under mysterious circumstances. The Salinger family has recently taken possession of the property, but the realtor behind the deal has vanished - after a very public and angry argument with Damien Salinger. If Bar Harbor's newest neighbors are murderers, Hayley will haunt them until they confess.

HALLOWED OUT by BARBARA ROSS

With its history of hauntings and ghost sightings, Busman's Harbor is the perfect setting for Halloween festivities. But when a reenactment of a Prohibition-era gangster's murder ends with a literal bang and a dead actor from New Jersey, Julia Snowden must identify a killer before she ends up sleeping with the fishes. There's nothing like home sweet home in this trio of Halloween tales....

Wonderfully Entertaining

I loved each of these stories but was a bit disappointed in the Leslie Meir stories ending.
All of the characters were entertaining as usual. I look forward to reading more like these stories.

The Third Story is the Best

The final story by Barbara Ross is by far the best in regard to plot and believable, likeable characters. The characters in the first two stories -- particularly some of the men and children -- can be rude and difficult to like. As a whole, the book is just supposed to be a fun, Halloween-themed read. The first two stories come across as not-great campfire ghost stories; the final one seems to be a more substantial cozy mystery. (I haven't yet finished the story, but can already speak to the difference in quality).

Not good

The first book was just bad. Main character was not likable at all and not realistic. Nothing happens…. No murder, nothing. So boring. The second was shaping up like the first and I couldn’t finish it. I gave up… hope the 3rd was half decent for those who made it there, but I didn’t really like the narrator either so I couldn’t get to it.

Not entertaining

Did not like the characters. The women are married to men who only think about themselves and are no help at all. The kids of Lucy Stones are brats and self centered, are getting a little old for their attitudes. I could not listen all the way through to .second story, it was off to a bad start, with a husband who acts like a teenager. I gave up.

I don't understand why the males are so useless, and the women accept it.
