Publisher's Summary

Ever since Agnes' car accident, things have changed drastically for her. When she wakes up in the hospital, not only is her son, Stuart, there - who she hasn't seen in years - but a ghostly apparition!

Instead of getting ready for the loony bin, Agnes and Eleanor help ready the Butler Mansion for a grand opening as a bed and breakfast on Halloween, except they find the body of Katherine Clark. It's game on, as usual, for Agnes, except she now has a new partner, one who has remained silent and is - well - a ghost.

Agnes now struggles to keep her wits, keeping her ghostly companion a secret from Eleanor, not such an easy feat since Eleanor is sharp as a tack. Not only that, but where has Stuart been all of these years, and what is he up to?

Voice actor was truly painful to listen too.

Story was okay, but voices were so terrible it made it hard to get through. I have listened to some amazing audio books. This was NOT one of them.

Simplistic

The overall plot was OK but the dialog was simplistic. I suppose the author was going for humor but it just didn't work. The delivery didn't help, the ghosts voice was especially irritating.

Agnes and Eleanor get unexpected help

Purchased as Whispersync on the cheap courtesy of Ereadercafe.
Sorry to say, but this is not the author's finest effort. I am familiar with Agnes and Eleanor, but some things seemed out of sync with the things that I am familiar with. I think that someone new to the author would get bogged down rather quickly. I did not find this one as funny, either. All that being said, usually Agnes and Eleanor and their friends and not-friends have a good mystery and a lot of laughs, so don't give up on them!
This narrator is OK, but when one gets used to a previous one...

Cute concept, poor execution

I love a good cozy mystery and was thrilled to find a book with older main characters, but this book was a disappointment. My first issue is that this is listed as the first in a series, but it's clearly a spin-off from another series. The characters are constantly referencing events from the past with little to no context for new readers and there are apparent long-established relationships between many of the characters that are never explained or fleshed out. I would expect that from a book that occurs later in an established series, but not one that's listed as Book One.

Then the author used dialogue to convey a lot of information to the reader, which leads to a lot of stilted and unnatural sounding dialogue. This was only made worse by the narrator's delivery of the dialogue. Since the story is told in first person, I expected the main character's voice for her inner monologue as she narrated the story and her outer dialogue when she spoke to other characters to match. At least a little. Instead the narrator chose to make them two very distinct voices. This was both jarring and, at times, confusing. And most of her other voice choices were questionable at best. I imagine this is what it would sound like if I attempted to narrate an audiobook myself.

Impressive!

I haven't yet read or listened to anything by Madison Johns that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. Impressive!
This story flowed and captured my attention so totally that I literally forgot to eat.
A clever plot, skillful sleuthing, good partnerships, quite a bit of secrecy and we have an intriguing and most entertaining book.
Entertaining narration by Angel Clark in the audiobook.
I would thoroughly recommend this as a good read. Enjoy!

Enjoyed the story.

Angel Clark does a good job narrating this story, and if I had not already heard Toni Orans narrate "Armed and Outrageous", I probably would have been satisfied. However, now when I read any Agnes Barton story, I hear those voices in my head.

Mysterious Spirits and Humor

I found this book to be extremely entertaining and humorous. Agnes and Eleanor set out to solve the mystery of the dead body that they've discovered only to end up in the middle of several other mysteries. I don't want to give away to much but if you love mysteries and humor this book is for you. Angel Clark does an awesome job narrating this story keeping it upbeat and light hearted. I received this book from Audiobooks Unleashed and this is my honest unbiased review.

Spooky B&B

I thought this was a good lighthearted ghost story which I finished in more or less 1 sitting. The characters were individual if a little weird but the book did gel well. The story was a little familiar with fraud, scam, and a detective needing help from his mother and a friendly ghost to help him solve the case. The narration was good although I was not keen on the echo'y sound effect used when the ghosts were talking.
Overall a good read and I give it 5 stars happily.

Hijinks fun

I enjoyed this fun quirky mystery. I have read a few of Madison Johns books and liked the characters in them so when I saw she had a new series with the same characters but with an added twist I thought I would give it ago. Glad I did because it was fun. I liked the addition of the ghost and the explanation of why Agnes could suddenly see ghosts and I thought it was cleverly woven in with the currant case as well. The mystery was interesting and the book just a fun light hearted mystery that you can get lost in for a few hours.
Agnes was caught up in a car accident and now she can see ghosts or more correctly a certain ghost has attached herself to Agnes and is following her around.. Fearing everybody would think her mad Agnes hasn't told anyone not even her best friend and partner in crime Eleanor. This would be okay but there latest case has them staying in a haunted house just after a murder has been committed. The dead lady isn't who they thought she was and the more questions they ask the more Agnes wishes her ghost friend would talk to her because solving the mystery around her might just help solve the murder. There is also the pressure of getting the manor ready for its first guests as a B&B, a cleaning crew that wont work and a son that is up to something. Not to mention there friends missing money, secret passageways and attempted kidnapping and it is not even Halloween yet.
I liked the use of the special effects for the ghost but not so sure of the voices for the characters, she tried to make them sound elderly but it just sounded to deep or gruff.

Haunted

Awful voice. Really spoiled the story for me. Sadly I won’t be listening to any more if Angel Clark is narrating.
