First Bite contains the first book in several of Steven Becker's series:

Wood’s Reef

It's easy to become invisible in the Florida Keys. Mac Travis was doing his best to keep a low profile: diving, fishing, and enough salvage work to pay his bills. It's a good life until he discovers something while spearfishing that could change the pristine Keys forever.

Pirate

After decades at seas, pirate legend Jose' Gasparilla is prepared to retire. As he and his crew split their treasure, the promise of one final prize lures the ship back into action. Little do they know that the purported riches are nothing but a trap set by the fledgling U.S. Navy!

Backwater Bay

When a body is found floating in the mangroves of Biscayne National Park, Special Agent Kurt Hunter has his first real case. He’s not looking for the spotlight or notoriety—he’s had both with disastrous results. But that seems unavoidable as the trail leads him to South Beach and his introduction to the culture there is anything but comfortable.

In the National Parks Service’s version of the witness protection program, Kurt quickly finds out that the pristine waters surrounding Miami are very different from the National Forest he transferred from. Follow Kurt through this new world as he unearths a crooked families greed to solve the case.

Started out ok but the plot just became more and more senseless and totally ludicrous. Cliche terrorists straight out of a kids comic book, a politician trying to recover a lost “nuclear bomb” to use as a campaign prop??? Characters running around shooting each other with spearguns? Dripping bleach on a puddle of gas to blow up a building? Pinching off a 2000 psi air hose to scare off a shark?? Nukes just left laying around in shallow water for 50 years? Who came up with this? A 10 year old? It got so stupid I gave up at chapter 38 out of 100. I never made it to the part where the main character Mac (MacGyver) used a paper clip and chewing gum wrapper to save the world but I’m sure it’s in there with every other recycled cliche. I was looking for a new Wayne Stinnett style tropical adventure series of novels since I finished all of his books. If you think the Marshals spin off is as good as Yellowstone or Landman you will love this series. Maybe I misunderstood and it’s a kids book, or for people who prefer shallow silly network TV style action plots over well developed and researched fiction.
