Publisher's summary

The fate of a lonely girl becomes part of a town’s shameful secret history in Thriller Award winner Jennifer McMahon’s terrifying story of guilt, retribution, and one tragic Halloween night.

Thirty-four years ago, on October 31, poor Hannah Talbott took part in a scavenger hunt gone violently wrong. The mean girls made sure of it. To this day, for a haunted local mother, the most unsettling Halloween costume of all is an urban legend they call Hannah-Beast. It’s a reminder of the past she can’t forget. Especially tonight when it’s come back, so close to home.

Jennifer McMahon’s Hannah-Beast is part of Dark Corners, a collection of seven heart-stopping short stories by bestselling authors who give you so many new reasons to be afraid. Each story can be read in a single sitting. Or, if you have the nerve, you can listen all by yourself in the dark.

Mean girls grow up.

SPOILER ALERT: Anyone with a teenage child knows what the end is going to be. Understandably the mom is so deep into her own pain that she misses out on obvious signals.

The book was well written making recognize the mean girls and how awful middle school can be. The narrator did an excellent job.

Disturbing

This story was very intense and very scary. I was really enjoying it until the ending. I don't like the way it was left. I definitely recommend people be cautious when reading this story and any other in this series. Some can be very triggering if not careful. I do recommend the book still. Even though I wasn't pleased at all with the ending. I repeat though, be mindful of possible triggers.

Dark!

Told in two timelines, in 1982 and 2016 on Halloween night. This is a dark and disturbing "mean girl" trope. Couldn't listen faster than 1.25x speed because the narrator sounds very "robotic" at a faster speed.

Creepy good Halloween story

Loved the story. Although the narrator sounds, irritatingly, like a BOT, I enjoyed the listen.

story & performer great, sound production is awful

it was an ok story, and the performance was fantastic, but the sound is way off. The performers words were clipped and fuzzy, I feel really bad that whoever did the sound for this just ruined it.

Okay

Predictable but slightly entertaining. It was a short story though. The narration was fine. Jhh

The Beast

Short, intense, riveting, and amazingly just right. This is a perfect Halloween story as well as one for teaching about bullying. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

very entertaining

I wasn't sure what to expect from this story, but I was very entertained. A nice little horror tale that probably will stick with me for a bit. Well done.

I loved that Hannah-beast became a Halloween legend.

say BOOOOO

Hannah-Beast is the sad story of the past coming back for revenge. Amanda and her mean girl friends love to pick on Hannah. I have no idea why, kids are mean. On Halloween night in 1982, it all goes horrible wrong. It's Halloween 2016- Has Amanda out run her past and what happened that night?
This very short story is read by Amy Landon. She does a great job narrating it. Fans of Jennifer's other books will like this one as well. It's only a hour and 23 minutes long but it's such a sad, heart breaking story.
