Publisher's Summary

He went on the road expecting the worst of America, but what if the worst of America was also in him? This is the unsettling story of a man in a midlife crisis and his unexpected awakening, by award-winning writer Emily Raboteau.

Poison-tongued film critic Reginald Wright is known for his creative insults and intolerance for the garbage culture, insufferable rudeness, and thoughtless racism of predictably common people. Now, against his better judgment, and with a marriage in crisis, he’s attempting a getaway in the Poconos that quickly fulfills his every low expectation. In fact, it’s becoming a nightmare. And that’s just what Reginald needs to wake up.

Emily Raboteau’s The Tangled Woods is part of Dark Corners, a collection of seven heart-stopping short stories by bestselling authors who give you so many new reasons to be afraid. Each story can be read in a single sitting. Or, if you have the nerve, you can listen all by yourself in the dark.

Cliche and just bad

Written by someone trying to hard. Bad story all around. Not to mention the totally unlikable, irredeemable main character.

Terrible!

I only listened to this all the way thru just to give it a fair chance. The plot is non existent and the characters horrible clichés. I have enjoyed most of the dark corners series but this was a total bomb. It was not frightening or suspenseful in the least and the only scary thing about it is that fact it ever made it past an editor.

Piece of c**p book

If you think all cops, guns, and white people are bad, then this is the book for you! Just one cliche after another. Immediately after crossing the border from NY to PA, the family gets cut off by someone. Of course it's someone in a pickup w/ a 'make America great again' bumper sticker, because those are the only types of people that act this way, right? They then get pulled over for speeding (racing another driver and weaving in and out of traffic) and the 7 year son starts crying because he's afraid his father will be shot by the big bad policeman. When the officer is the most friendly and kind person you can meet (and lets them off w/ not even a warning), the family still thinks there's some ulterior motive.
The author clearly has issues and is projecting them onto her characters. I listened to about 25 minutes of this mess of a book and deleted it. Worst book I have ever tried to listen to.

Disgraceful....wanted to stop

Wanted to stop once it was a self loathing man hating his skin color all colors are beautiful, stopped when female referred to their vacation area as MAGA country!. The only separation in this world is those not uniting but who continue to divide. That's this author! Shameful!

this is terrible!

All of the stories in this series have been based but this one was especially stupid, sad and terrible. The main character and family are shallow terrible people and the author basically sums up a visit to great wolf lodge, in great detail falsely and not favorably. I finished the story since it was short hoping that the whole family would die in the end.

The worst thing I have heard in a while

This story is so awful and ridiculous. The author is obviously trying to prove how liberal and superior they are, by hitting on every sjw topic out there, and in a very poor way.

If I could get a negative rating, I would.

Don’t waste your time

Was completely lost...no plot. The only reason I kept it on was because I was driving. Found myself thinking...when will it end. Felt like the guy who jumped out the window!
