When a dragon-blooded emperor reaches for godhood, Earth reaches back—with bullets.
The plan was simple: conquer a new realm, harvest its souls, and become a god.
But nothing about Ohio is simple.
Armed with grit, ingenuity, and a lot of guns, the scrappy humans of Earth prove they're not the kneeling type. In a clash of magic and modern firepower, alliances are forged, friendships are tested, and ambitions burn brighter than the skies over the Midwest.
Can humanity stand its ground, or will the emperor's quest for divinity grind them to dust?
Perfect for fans of epic battles, unlikely heroes, and a healthy dose of fantasy-meets-modern warfare.

Pros: While not terribly original, the Fantasy World vs. Modern Military themes are done very well. I feel that the fantasy characters' motivations are clearly defined so it's not just a mindless invasion. Military characters' dialogue and jargon are written well and are immersive. Dual narrators help to frame the story and separate the points-of-view since they do shift back and forth quite often. There is palpable danger for both sides of the conflict.
Cons: The shifting perspectives are a good idea but they're not executed as well as they could be. Often there would be characters describing things with vocabulary that they wouldn't have. Example, a fantasy character probably wouldn't be describing "bullets", "gunfire", and "adrenaline". This book really doesn't give you any characters to follow in the first half. You start to get some characters to latch onto and they begin to interact, but not until the second half. Until then, you're just kind of listening to/reading a bunch of disjointed battle scenes. There were also a couple of narration mistakes that took me out of the story. Example: Corpsman being pronounced as "Corpse-Man".
Overall: It was enjoyable. I don't mean to nit-pick. I want this story to continue and I'd like it to get better. I think with some tighter copy-editing and performance direction, this could rival the Ex-Force series.
