Rachel Hollis has seen it too often: women not living into their full potential. They feel a tugging on their hearts for something more, but they’re afraid of embarrassment, of falling short of perfection, of not being enough. In Girl, Stop Apologizing, number-one New York Times best-selling author and founder of a multimillion-dollar media company, Rachel Hollis sounds a wake-up call. She knows that many women have been taught to define themselves in light of other people - whether as wife, mother, daughter, or employee....

When it comes to the “hard seasons” of life - the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job - transformation seems impossible when grief and uncertainty dominate your days. Especially when, as Didn’t See that Coming reveals, no one asks to have their future completely rearranged for them. But, as Rachel writes, it is up to you how you come through your pain - you can come through changed for the better, having learned and grown, or stuck in place where your identity becomes rooted in what hurt you.

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Glad to see I wasn't alone
I kept seeing this book in a bunch of my friend's insta stories about how it was so great and "life changing". I just kept thinking, wow, what did I miss with this? But reading more of the reviews on here I see that I wasn't alone in thinking she was humble bragging and that she over simplified everything. As if "just get up and do it" attitude is all people with problems are missing in their life. Also, I found that she contradicted herself several times. This isn't always uncommon in self help or self growth books, but usually its between chapters or sections in book, where in this book one paragraph would strongly contradict the paragraph just previous.
I never write reviews, but this book was pretty terrible. I don't think I have ever read a book that was so hyped up, and missed the mark by so far.

Why is this so popular?
Rachel Hollis... privileged and judgmental. I'm a thin gal but I was bothered by the fat shaming in this book. The author seems blissfully unaware of her own privilege and displays so much smugness it's nauseating. I couldn't finish the book, it was just too much blech.

I hated this so much. I forced myself to listen to the whole thing. I wished I wouldn’t have. I can’t relate at all. She goes on about peeing her pants while jumping on a trampoline or shaving her toes as confessions of horror. She sounds like a privileged arrogant women offering fake help.

I like to stick with books that I walk away from with some sort of new knowledge or a motivated feeling - this book went popular quick so I decided to take a chance, at the end of the read I was very disappointed. It’s typical of any Rachel Hollis
Was hoping for more from Ms. Hollis but again she disappointed with her regurgitated quotes and ideas from other people and her simplified “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” “just do it” ideology that only speaks to her white privilege and a closed-eyed perspective of the experiences other people live. She is great for a MLM company (and probably pumps people up which boosts sales and profits!) which is why her speaking fee is more than Michelle Obama. Not worth the time or money!

Girl, Wash Your Face has truly changed my life!
Girl, Wash Your Face has changed my life, yes I realise how dramatic that sounds. But it's true! I'm 37 and feel like I've just learnt the skills I need to make my life the best it can possibly be, thanks to this book.
I have an illness that leaves me stuck in bed, in pain, almost every day. I find audiobooks relax me and help me sleep. I came across Girl, Wash Your Face and thought well here goes, another self help book, trying to make me feel better about myself. How wrong could I be...
I immediately felt Rachel's warm, kindhearted words were written for ME. It was if she had come over for a girly chat. The fact that Rachel narrates the book herself, makes it what it is. No one can mean the words she has written more than her. And that really comes across as she reads it with such conviction.
Rachel has a way of making you feel like you've been friends forever. Although she is so sweet, she won't take any excuses. And isn't that honestly what we all need, someone who is there with great advice but won't take any of your bs. No excuses about feeling lazy, you have to go out and chase your dreams.
I believe that the true genius of this book is that the author wrote it because she truly wants to help other women. Rachel Hollis honestly cares about me and you. She wants us to live our lives to its full potential. And she is so passionate about empowering women. This passion cannot help but motivate you to make the changes in your life to be who you want to be.
The book made me realise that although the path I'm on is not the one I originally wanted, I can still be happy! I have been just existing for a long time and now I'm starting to live life again. It's as if Rachel came into my house and pulled me out of bed. I feel as if she's one of my closest friends and said "come on, stop feeling sorry for yourself, get up and start being the best version of you that you can be!" I have been through a lot in life but it doesn't mean I should just give up. I can still have hopes and dreams, I just need to adjust them a little. And as Rachel says "no-one cares about your dreams as much as you do."
I now have the paper back of Girl, Wash Your Face now too and I've read it 3 times, I feel like I learn something new every time.
Rachel teaches you life skills to help you achieve whatever it is that you dream of.
The book is not only informative but my god is it funny. Rachel is so witty and will have you laughing at her funny stories.
I have recommended this book to my friends who have also fallen in love with it. I bought a copy yesterday for my cousins birthday and I can't wait to talk to her about it. It's one of those reads that you just want to share with everyone. It's the holy grail for all women, in all walks of life. Because the underlying message is the same for all of us, you deserve to be happy!!!
So I'll say it again... Girl, Wash Your Face has changed my life. Rachel Hollis, I just want to say Thank You! ❤️ xxx

Not for everyone ( not God believers stay away)
Thank you to the author for sharing all the experiences. The author connects all her experiences and the message she wants to share too much with God, I respect her but it's not fair to generalize and for me the book started not to have any sense from the minute she involved religious and God with the message I was trying to find. I'm an atheist.

Uplifting, confidence building and eye opening
What made the experience of listening to Girl, Wash Your Face the most enjoyable?
The author / narrator was a pleasure to listen to. Whilst the story contained many things I have heard before, her way of explaining and demonstrating was eye opening and heart warming. I felt like this book was written ABOUT me in many ways and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Please LISTEN to this book... YOU NEED IT!
I have never felt so compelled to share a book in my life.. I am telling anyone who will listen to go buy this book... from strangers in the supermarket to my hairdresser, my friends, my family, my colleagues, and I am telling you dear reader, you are reading this review because you want to see if this is worth spening your money on... I promise, it is. Let rachel into your life, your heart will thank you. Rachel's honesty is almost shocking; her unbosoming style is unrivalied in today's world so obsessed with perfection. Her charm and wit are there to ensure that you feel uplifted, even when the love is so tough, and the words so true that you think you might need to stop... there is something here for everyone, we can all relate to one if not all of the lies Rachel told herself and we should all free ourselves of these lies that serve neither us, nor those around us. Being lucky enough to own this book as both a hard copy & audible copy, I can tell you, that to have Rachel read this book, makes it even easier to feel that reading this book is like having the most powerful chat with your very best friend. The kind of friend who pushes you onward and makes you see yoursefl the way she sees you. Thank you Rachel & good luck new listeners & readers, picking up this book is going to change your life <3

Complete twaddle
This is without doubt the worst book I have ever purchased. It basically amounts to a compilation of Pinterest-style snippets of ‘wisdom’. You would get more inspiration from a fridge magnet. And it’s religious. Complete and utter tosh and hogwash.

Not for Me
Gave up after she started talking about God and getting guns for her birthday as a child.

Too many humble brags
This was a well intentioned book but the constant references to her millions of readers became a bit much, as well as the religious associations. I found it a little sickly and clichéd.

Yes, this is a Christian based book
I listened to this book almost as a way to try to prove to myself, that I read good books and this one was a trashy girly little book that everyone raving about it, simply has never read a good book.
Well, here I am humbling myself because this is a good book.
Let me start by saying that if you don’t have faith and people with faith annoy you, don’t bother. Rachel is a Christian and this book was published by a Christian publisher. So yes, God is involved, get over it.
Rachel talks about her life, in a way that so many of us can relate; but not many have the courage to speak about.
It’s funny, really easy to listen to and it did give a boost to my morale.
It allowed me to see certain things in my life in a different perspective.
It’s not a self-help book. It’s a book that puts life a girl and as woman in a relatable perspective, reaching the conclusion that we’re all doing just fine.
Totally worth the read/listen.

too much god
struggled to finish this as it became very peachy. I liked the idea of the book but there is only so much religion I can have shoved at me.

Every dark season will pass.
This book has shook me to my core. I have laughed and cried. I have got up early for two weeks to listen in peace before my kids get up. I have just reached the end of the book but I want to listen again and really let it sink in and take action. I would recommend this book to everyone.

She does make a few good points
I probably wouldn't have bought this if I had of realised how heavily it would focus on Christianity and motherhood. I struggled to finish it to be honest but there are a few good chapters in there that are more broadly relevant.

I like Rachel Hollis but...
I liked some parts of this book but for me there was just too much emphasis on religion and God. As someone who isn't religious I felt like it didn't really relate to me

Sanctimonious, blind and judgemental with a little nugget of half decent advice
The author is preachy, and despite her claims of a “black and gay best friend” she is blind to her own judgements about race, socio-economic status and the impact of being “other” that continues to play a part in people’s lives. Her sanctimonious attitude rubs badly and the way she body shames can only be described as uneducated drivel. There are a couple of gold nuggets but mostly, it’s all dead weight that serves to make you feel worse, not better.

I struggled to listen to it
This book may be more appropriate for perhaps a young teen (minus the mum chapter).
Some points were a little enlightening but most of the book was very airy fairy and almost cringe worthy. None of her advice was fact based and to be honest I had to stop listening to it.
As i said though, a younger girl may love it!

For the innocent and faint-hearted
I appreciate the sentiment of what Hollis is trying to convey, but it took a while for it to become clear that this book is a “Christian publication” (as she repeatedly states), and therefore seems to lack the real sass or dose of dirty reality to make it more relatable (for me, anyway). Hollis totally acknowledges this herself though. She is unapologetic about who she is, innocence and naivety flow in abudance in her stories - I adore her self worth, but in general these were not stories I could relate to and as a result I was a little bored. As mentioned, the general sentiment is spot on, just the stories to back it up are a little lack lustre.

Not for me
I really wanted to enjoy this book, but I was very disappointed. Rachel's life seems more idyllic than someone who has been through rough times and come out the other side. The book in fact is quite annoying, and I felt at points he's bragging about her life whilst trying to make out it's not great to be at major awards shows. Oh the struggles of life!

Great tips to resonate with!
I’m not a parent, but I’m a Aunty, so I switched the parent talk to be Aunty or just listened, as it was a huge part of the topics
It’s a great book with great tips!
I would love to listen to it again in due course and absorbs more!

A must read!
I love how Rachel normalises the parts of life we tend to consider 'ugly'. She is funny, witty, humble and honest. I love this book and what it represents.
