Publisher's summary

A crew must try to survive on an ancient, abandoned planet in the latest space-horror novel from S.A. Barnes, acclaimed author of Dead Silence.

An abandoned plant. A hidden past. A deadly danger.

Psychologist Dr. Ophelia Bray has dedicated her life to the study and prevention of ERS—the most famous case of which resulted in the brutal murders of twenty-nine people. It's personal to her, and when she's assigned to a small exploration crew who recently suffered the tragic death of a colleague, she wants to help. But as they begin to establish residency on an abandoned planet, it becomes clear that crew is hiding something.

And Ophelia's crewmates are far more interested in investigating the eerie, ancient planet and unraveling the mystery behind the previous colonizers' hasty departure than opening up to her.

That is, until their pilot is discovered gruesomely murdered. Is this Ophelia’s worst nightmare starting—a wave of violence and mental deterioration from ERS? Or is it something even more sinister?

Terrified that history will repeat itself, Ophelia and the crew must work together to figure out what’s happening. But trust is hard to come by…and the crew isn’t the only one keeping secrets.

Critic reviews

“Perfectly unsettling. Ghost Station scratches the itch for space horror just right—and doesn’t shrink from the grisly consequences of exploring the unknown.”—Chloe Gong, New York Times bestselling author of These Violent Delights

Ghost Station is everything I could want in a horror story and more. Barnes became one of my favorite authors with Dead Silence and this is a stunning follow-up. Highly recommended.”–Darcy Coates, USA Today bestselling author of Dead of Winter

“A skin-crawling, delicious tale of exploration, exploitation, and electrifying horror. I loved (and screeched through) every moment of it.”—Yume Kitasei, author of The Deep Sky

I’ve been waiting

I’m very specific in my reading genre (autism) I’ve been looking for a space opera horror/thriller forever that wasn’t Asimov. The characters are raw and real, I felt their uneasiness and fear. AMAZING READ. Brb while I start it over.

Another amazing space creeper!

I think S.A. Barnes has truly landed as a premiere voice in sci-fi horror with this one. With equal parts of external and internal terror, this story and its characters had me in a chokehold right through to the end. Well done! I can’t wait to read the next one!

Dear God, Will It Never End…

Somebody thinks this is a thriller? Don’t get me wrong, I love this author and their previous books, but this is really tedious. I’m half way through the book now (Chapter 13 with 9hrs and 23 minutes to go) and so far the psychologist is the only one that needs a mental health intervention (and girlfriend is well past talk therapy). If I hear “ERS” (Eckhart-Reiser Syndrome) used one more time, with no homicide, I’m going to scream. Where are the murderous aliens when you need them most?

Been Waiting Since I Read Dead Silence

S.A. Barnes is very good at wracking up the tension of her stories and making you feel that creeping unease that I’ve been waiting for since I read her last book.

There are aspects that I wish she had explored more regarding her setting for this story; this strange Alien world that endured some long forgotten catastrophe for instance. I feel as if many things were left untapped that would be perfect fuel for terrifying stories.

That said, the story as is was more than satisfying to my longing for a surprisingly sparse selection for modern Sci-fi horror.

I do truly hope Ms. Barnes continues to thrill us with her chilling stories from deep space and I eagerly await the next story she will share with us.

It's pretty good

The narrator's voice on this tale is very soothing, to the point where I used it to fall asleep a couple times. The story was well written, and contained things I've never encountered before. It's not the most exciting story I've ever read, but I didn't get bored and I finished the whole thing. It's worth a listen.

A dark space adventure.

A good addition to the pantheon that looks into the future through a mirror darkly. It brings some of the familiar elements of stories like The Expanse and Aliens while contributing subtle reflections on the human condition. Powerful soulless corporations, fallen Alien civilizations, mysterious threats to humanity, and a rag tag team trying to survive them all. You will love it...little bird.
