LOVED IT!

I freaking love this series. I cannot wait for the next book to come out! Medium heat and low angst. Tor Thom did a great job with the narration.

Game Changers #1

Game Changer is the first book I’ve listened to narrated by Tor Thom. He’s got a great vocal range, capable of lot of distinctive character voices, and keeps a good pace throughout, making sure the quieter beginning half of Game Changer didn’t drag down the momentum of the story.

Do you like hockey? Do you like romances featuring a gorgeous, kind, sweet, and lonely millionaire hockey player falling in love with a gorgeous, sweet, smart, and funny “regular” guy? Do you like a lot (and I mean a lot) of insanely hot sex? Do you love stories where one character is in the closet, but could decide to possibly throw his entire career away all for LOVE?

I took a few days before writing my review to try to insert a little objectivity into this almost entirely subjective review, because when I finally finished listening to Game Changer I wasn’t thinking about the story. I wasn’t thinking about the heart boner I got from Kip and Scott working their issues out and getting their sigh-worthy happy ending, I was just relieved I didn’t have to listen to Tor Thom’s character voice for Kip anymore.

Kip’s was the voice that drove me nuts, but it wasn’t the only voice I struggled with (why did Thom choose that voice for Scott? Why does Kip’s sister not have an accent? Why do most of the women sound the same? Why is Rozanov not deeply Russian?!) and that I struggled with the main character voices made this a really, really long 10+ hour listen and left me far more hypercritical than I would have been if I’d loved Thom’s voices.

If I hadn’t disliked his voices, I would have loved this audio because Thom keeps the pace steady, he uses emotion in his delivery, the sexy times are super hot, and it’s overall a good performance. It just wasn’t my cup of tea. But I know I’m going to give Thom another chance with Heated Rivalry and hopefully the next time I’ll enjoy it more.

My Favorite!

This is my favorite out of this series. I loved reading Kip and Scott’s story, from their meeting up until their dance in the club. The pace of this story is well done, the conflicts are well thought out & the characters are endearing and relatable. The angst is low but the sexy scenes are steamy and passionate. I love the secondary characters too, specially the fact that Scott was raised by a fierce single mom who done everything to make sure Scott gets to play hockey. I adore Kip’s parents. And Kip’s BFFs add more dimension to Kip’s characters. It was just as enjoyable as when I read it the first time.

Where I struggled with was with the narration. I have listened to Tor Thom narrate other books, so I was really surprised as to why Kip’s voice and accent was so strange. It sounded off. I had to stop listening and gave it time before I picked it back up again. Other than the strange accent of Kip’s, he did great.

I can’t wait to listen to the next two books! I heard the next one is so much better!
